Puppy in 3 weeks (gender?)

Well we finally found the dog breed and Breeder we were looking for!! We went to visit a Yorkshire terrier breeder yesterday and we ended up staying for an hour talking and visiting with the dogs. There are three pups, one male and two females. The females are $950 and the male $850. The price includes micro chip, gurentee (even if we find out my mom is allergic), vet check, shots up to date and tails docked. The breeder was very nice and knew Alot about the breed and her dogs. They will be ready for their new homes Dec 11, at 10 weeks old. The dam is 6 years old, and this is her third and last litter of puppies. Me and my family are planning on picking a puppy from her litter!! The breeder said that we had been the first to actually drive out there and see the dogs and talk with the breeder about seriously purchasing a puppy and that she would reserve first pick for us. So today my dad is calling her saying its a go and that we will be coming by on thursday to make our deposit and so my mom can visit the dam and puppies and talk to the breeder as well.

When i was there i had already had my mind on most likely picking a male puppy (before i found out about the prices). But then one of the females kept playing on my legs when i sat down and when i picked her up and would always end up setteling into my arms and snuggling in for a nice little rest/nap. I am now really leaning toward that female for my pick. there is another female, a smaller one and the male which seemed to be more independent and not into interacting with me much, although during the end of the hour he did settle down on my legs and take a small snooz there lol, but i think that was just cuz he was tired out from playing around with his mom and sisters, and my legs just happend to be the closest comfy place to take a little break. Anyways if you could just let me know about your own preferences with gender and experiences? I will probably just end up picking the one that fits with me best though...and i think i have already kinda taken an extra liking to that one female.

First off, sound like you really did your reasearch and found a good breeder! Secondly, both males and females have positive and negative sides to them so pick whichever one you like best... I have heard though that males tend to be more playful and silly as where females are more independant and sophisticated... Good luck and congrats with the puppy!

Sounds like the female puppy picked you. Usually there will be a puppy in the litter that naturally takes to you. The little female that played with you would be the best pup for you I bet!

Aww! That's great! I've never had a male Yorkie, but the ones that I've met have seemed very independant like you said, and very energetic. I have 2 female Yorkies, and they are SO wonderful. Even the dad of Dixie's litter seemed very independant, as opposed to the mom who kept following us around, and wanting attention. She was very sweet. Dixie is very, very people oriented, and loved to be with me at all times. This can be good...or bad. I'm homeschooled, my dad works from home, and my mom works 2 days a week, so we're home with her all the time, but for a family who isn't home, a people dependant dog might not be best. The other day I went and spent the night at my friend's house, and my mom said that she was walking down the hallway, and Dixie was just sitting next to my door looking into my room. I felt so bad, and when I got home she was very excited, and licked me all over. :D Anyway, I'd get the female that you liked, but whatever would fit your home the best, only you'd be able to choose. I hope you make th right choise! Remember to post lots of pictures when you get your puppy! I love Yorkie Pictures!!!! ^.^

well the first time they advertised or got the word out that they had a littler of puppies was on saturday, and they have had alot of calls but no one had come out to see the pups yet (lived alittle bit out of town, about a 45 min drive). and when my dad called today he found out that after he left they got a ton of calls and someone went there today to visit the dogs as well and talk with the breeder. oh ya i forgot to mention that they are also all ckc registered!! and she sent me a pic of the puppies in an email last night after we visited, its a scaned picture and not that great but ill put it up here and point out the one that we are 90% getting (that female one i was talking about)

ya they were in the classifieds otherwise we would have NEVER found out about this breeder or been able to contact her. =) we have been searching for a few months now for a breeder like the one we have found and im really happy that we found this one!! =) two weeks and 5 days now!! *is slowly counting down the days untill i can pick up my puppy*

This woman sounds like a really nice lady that loves her dogs. I'm glad that she is taking good care of the puppies and has been so helpful to you and your family.

However, it sounds like she is a classic example of a backyard breeder. I'm assuming that she paired two untested dogs so she could create a litter of puppies for profit. It's sad to see someone that loves her dogs being taken over by greed to the point where she would treat the puppies as objects for sale (to make money--not improve the breed)!

If you do decide to stick with this breeder, I wish you the best of luck with your puppy. I'm sure she will be great.

By the way, for the rest of you, are reputable Yorkshire Terrier breeders incredibly hard to find? It seems like they would be completely overshadowed by the huge wealth of backyard breeders and puppy mills pumping out unhealthy "cute" Yorkies.

well actually they are loosing money in what they are doing and no, they bred the dam with a show yorkie i believe, we are purchasing the puppy under a non breeding contract because that was the contract she signed with the owner of the sire, so its not a puppy mill or for profit or anything, their house is beautiful and they dont need the profit and are actually as i said not makinig much if any profit from this. and also she wont let her dogs go to anyone, only homes she feels will suit her pups and the breed and take care of them properly, she has refused potential buyers before. also the contract also comes with a guarentee of any hereditary health problems and as i think i said before once we talked to her about my mom and her allergies (yorkshire terriers are good for people with allergies) she said that she would gladly take the puppy back if we found out that my mom was allergic later on with a full refund as well, reason being is that she would rather take care of the pup or find a good home for the pup rather then the pup going to a shelter or another home that the pup wouldnt be happy in. ya i know advertising in the paper isnt that good and putting different prices on the gender isnt that good ether but all ther other areas are checks in the breeder check list i set up for myself based on research. =)

:rolleyes: Is it ever!!! I think I searched for a breeder for about a Year before I FINALLY found the right one. And I'm completely happy that I did, because Dixie is just GREAT! :D

First you say, they are loosing money then you say if they are making money it is not much.

At the end it sounds like you have some misgivings about this breeder.

I would continue looking if you already see some things that are wrong with this breeder.
Dont rush into getting a puppy... you will be left to deal with the problems for a lifetime.

If it were I, I would pick the female, she seemed to attach herself too you, mind you the male did in his own special way as well! Remember, he/she is a life time deal, so when you go back see which one comes too you first and then go from there!

I really do wish you the best with this puppy. They really are adorable pups and they look healthy too.

I just hope the breeder can provide you with proof of health testing on the sire and dam. In the very least, they should have their dogs CERF done and it would be great if they had patellas certified as well as they are a big problem within the breed. I'm just not a fan of breeders who refuse to test their stock.

Sounds like a lot of money for an "ad " dog.... but she is sweet looking and I wish you the best . Please folks , when you can't find "ads " ...newspapers or internet , go to your state's breeder clubs !! I know many Golden breeders within 4 states around me and NONE advertise. Nor did I .

They are cute little Yorkie puppies. I raise Yorkies too and it isn't unusual for me to have pups at that age and no one knows about it. If they are fairly small I don't even try to sell them to the general public until they are about 9 or 10 weeks old. I usually sell them by taking deposits from referrals.

Hello and congratulations! Waiting for a new pup is always so exciting and days just don't pass fast enough! ;)
I think this is a nice family that takes care of their dogs well, and if both female and male had all the health checks (they should both me AKC registered as well!!) there shouldn't be a problem. You really do have to ask about the health checking.... both dogs should be checked for any hereditary disease common for the breed. And I'd also ask myself why dogs are CKC (is that continental kennel club or canadian?).....
