View Full Version : Chiclet
Hi everyone. I have to take Chiclet, my bunny, to the vet in an hour. Please think about her! I'm quite worried. She's lost more weight than I realized even though she eats and eats. Up until yesterday she was still quite active but she's not now. :( I really hope she's going to be ok. I love her lots. She was my b-day present from Steve last year. She's not even a year yet!
Cross your fingers. She's really, horribly skinny and I didn't notice until I picked her up yesterday.

Aw Saje! *hugs* I'll say a little prayer. :(
Thanks. I really worry about the bunnies. They are very senstive creatures and I've lost two in the last years. I really, really don't want that to happen again. :(

Doggie hugs & kisses to Chiclet. I hope she'll be okay. Please let us know.
I'll let you know as soon as I get back! Maybe she has worms. I wonder if she could get them. do rabbits get worms? She's not exposed to anything

Awww, poor Chiclet! {{Hugs}}! I'm sure she'll be ok. But I have no idea if they get worms!! Do rabbits get cushings??!! Could be some sort of protien processing disorder?!! But i'm sure she'll be fine!!
I hope so. (worry worry worry)

Worrying with you, dear.
Bad news. She has an extremely large cancerous tumour. I've taken her home to die and she's laying next to me. The trip seems to have made her a lot worse. She can't hold herself up anymore and she won't even swallow the apple sauce I'm trying to feed her. My poor baby. I'm hoping that she's just exhausted and will sleep a bit and then I can get her to eat. The vet said she's not suffering though and I don't think so either. I'm weepy. :( She keeps trying to stand up but can't so I have her propped up against my leg so she's more upright.
:(

Oh, i'm so sorry!!! *I've started to cry too!!* At least she will be with you when her times comes!! {{{Hugs from me and licks from Gussie}}}
Thanks. That's sweet. It's horrible losing them. I don't know if I'll have more. It's so tough. :(

oh Saje..i am soooo sorry..just so sorry for all your sorrows..cancer sucks..it took my Bronki and it took my Jim. I wish i could give you a hug. not that it would change a thing.. i wish there was. something that would make it all go away and be better. Dang it all.
Thanks guys. She's gone now. :( I'm so sad. I was holding her though. I hope that helped. We buried her in the woods behing the house. It's really nice there. I may go back and put some stones on it so dogs can't dig her up. That's a fear of mine.
I showed her body to the other two bunnies. My mom used to do that with our cats so that they understood what had happened. But they seemed to get REALLY upset about it. I think bunnies my be different because they are so 'pack' oriented. They both kept sniffing her and poking her like they wanted her to get up. And Mika tried to climb up on her. I had to take her away. She kept sticking her nose on Chiclet's eye. :( It distrubed me. And then Steve said that maybe I had told them that I had killed Chiclet! I hope that's not true!
Here she is. My baby girl.

I am so sorry! :( :( Surely the others don't think you killed her (sounds just like something my James would say) They know how much you love them. I'm sure it did help to have you holding her, that's how I felt when we had Smokey put down. I had to be with him, it probably made you feel a lil' better too.
Yeah. Although she had seizures before/as she was dying. :( I was trying to hold her still (gently) because it was quite violent.
I don't know what the others think.

AAAWW, I'm sorry (again) I know it's so hard losing them, any kind of animal. Well I am sure they don't think that, they prob. sensed something was wrong with her.
Yeah I think they knew. They just seemed so concerned.

I'm sure they were. Although I didn't think it bothered Carey when Smokey died, James said he noticed she kept looking for him. We didn't let her say goodbye.
I hope these guys will be ok. They were bonded more than the other two boys who had to live separately.

I don't know anything about rabbits. Hopefully they'll be okay. At least they have eachother still.
Yeah that's true. I'll just keep an eye on them

I brought bronki home in a box..thought if i showed mary maybe she wouldn't keep looking for him. I always felt lost was worse than knowing that someone had passed on. I don't know if she understood or not. I do think that animals are tuned into our thoughts and i am sure your rabbits knew your love and could never question your motives. Her cancer must have come up quickly..bronki's did too..about twenty days and my best friend was gone. I hope one day they find an answer to cure it before it starts..then our young friends can stay with us.

Why did the other 2 boys live seperately? I'll be thinking about the others for ya.
I hope so too Smkie!
They lived separate because I hadn't gotten them neutered. They could all see each other and sniff noses but bunnies like to cuddle and groom each other so it wasn't the same. I got Niblet neutered and the next morning he was dead. Which is why I haven't had these girls done. I'm a little scared.

Oh my gosh, had no idea bunnies were quite that delicate!
They are. It's a bit more complicated than that but I don't really want to get into it. Maybe I'll look up that thread. They are delicate that's for sure!

I'm sorry to hear about Niblet too (should have told you sooner) I didn't realize he was gone :(
Yeah he was my good boy. He loved head pets and licked me sometimes. That's like a rabbit blessing. The ultimate bond.

I'm sorry I might be bumming you out keeping you talking about them :( It always helped me to talk about the good things
:D I don't mind. I wouldn't talk if I didn't want to. I had a nap earlier and sleeping on things really helps me.

I just read this and I'm so sorry. I've had rabbits and I currently have guinea pigs. They both do such a good job of hiding symptoms by the time you know something is wrong it can be too late. At least she got to be at home with you for her last moments. I'm sure that was a great comfort to you both.
I also just read your other post about Niblet, and am so furious with that vet. I’ve had two rabbits spayed and one guinea pig who has had two surgeries (one spay, one bladder stone removal) and the most important thing to do in their care is keep them eating right up until and immediately after surgery. There is no excuse for the misinformation that your vet gave you. I understand that small animal surgeries are different than dog/cat surgeries, but people rely on their vet to know what’s best for their animals. The least he could have done was told you he didn’t know what he was doing and recommend another doctor.

Saje, I'm so sorry to hear about Chiclet. I'm crying right now and can't stop. I'm glad that you were there to comfort Chiclet. I know inside the other rabbits could sense what you were going through and that Chiclet was ill. Doggie & kittie hugs and kisses to you.
Thanks barb. That's sweet.
