Do Shih Tzus shed? I've read some conflicting information...most say that they do not shed....some say that they do....I'd think that they do, because of their thick double coat....but if they don't then awesome! I have Yorkies (as most of you know) and the only time any of their hair falls out is when they get brushed, and a tangle is snagged, etc. Which happens to me too, so I suppose they'd be considered non-shedding (That is, unless I'm considered shedding.....???) Anyway, on a more serious note, (:p) could someone help me on that? Thank you in advance!

LoL...I'm gonna say they dont (even though most people say all dogs shed). Sisco only loses fur (I say loses fur because 'sheds' doesn't really apply) when he gets it caught on something like the door of his crate. My grandma's keeps her Shih Tzu's coat short and I have yet to see him shed or lose any fur at all. Hope that makes sense. :)

Hi
I raise Shih Tzus, and they do not shed. However, all that hair that does not come off, ends up in a tangled mess if not brushed frequently or kept short.
Hope this helps.

No, they don't shed. Sure, everything that is living with hair will lose some, but they don't shed like a short coated breed. They shed the same as a yorkie...next to nothing!

Actually Steve, I did (and still do) plan on getting a Show Prospect Yorkie. :D This Shih Tzu is mainly for my sister, although I'm buying it for her(I know, I'm crazy!). :p She wants it as mainly a pet, but is also very interested in the showing. I've been working with Dixie, and she wants to at least try it out, so she can see if she likes it. She'll probably begin with the 4-H dog shows. She wants to join 4-H really bad, and they have dog shows. I was going to do it with our Princess, but never got to, because we moved, and I didn't join 4-H at my new school. Although, I'm seriously considering joining FFA next year. :D But, I won't be getting my next Yorkie until I title, and possibly breed Dixie. ;) Which will be a long while.

Thank you! No, those are tear stains. They just show up more one lighter dogs. The owners don't use tear drops on her, but we're going to when we get her. :D We found some good stuff called ANGEL EYES and you put it in their food!!!

Thank you Makka!! :) Tear stains are basically just stains from when the dogs eyes water. It's alot more predominant in the longhaired breeds because the long hair bothers the eyes. Short haird dogs just get eye boogers. :D I can't wait either!! It'll be a week from today when we go pick her up!!! YAAAAAY!

There is not one breed that does no shed. The "buy a hypoallergenic dog that doesn't shed" line is pure b.s.

However, some dogs shed more than others & some shed so little that one doesn't notice it much hence the "my dogs don't shed." My first dog was a Cairn Terrier & had to be handstripped to pull the dead hair out, but that didn't mean she didn't shed.

We got little Zoey home today!!! :) She's so sweet, and we already love her to DEATH!!!!! :D She's awesome. Introducing her to the other girls proved quite difficult, and they growled at 1st, but as you can see from the pictures, the seem to have settled down, and are getting along better now. :p Here's a video of them:
