Part DINGO??

hmm.i've been talking to mum about him. and we think buster may be part dingo. just because, there are things about him that arn't all dog.
he has this personality i've never seen before and expecially not in a kelpie/ACD. he disconnects from me sometimes, when we are out of the yard. and he acts like he'l only do stuff because a higher member of the pack said to. not because he loves me and wants to work with me.
he gets this thing with his eyes where he just... zones out and disconnects.

he's really weird. i think he may be a little bit dingo. mum said that dingo has been used in breeding the kelpie and cattle dog and his line could have just had the chemistry to make it more pronounced in him. i dunno.

ACD's are part Dingo, and have some unique traits in their own. Perhaps he is getting it from the Kelpie and ACD in the same, as they aren't that far off in eachother.

ACD's are Dalmatian/Dingo/Bull Terrier/Collie. Though back then, these dogs weren't what we have today.

ok cool. yeah. he's an odd dog. but i wouldn't change ANYTHING about him at all.

Kelpies are considered to have dingoes in their ancestry. The act of cross-breeding with dingoes would have been many generations ago however.

It is possible that the behaviours you described are from Buster's kelpie (and dingo) heritage.

The mother of my pup (kelpie x border collie) is p/b Kelpie. She is very dingo-like - shy and distant and she comes into heat only once a year.

It is possible that some kelpie breeders still cross-breed with dingoes even now either intentionally,(not that this would be documented in any way as it is illegal to keep dingoes or dingo crosses in many places) or accidentally (that is, if they live in Australia of course :lol-sign: ).

The absolute randomness of genes and inheritance ensures that personalities vary considerably from breed to breed and dog to dog.

Howdy Kelpie Gal!!! Good post concerning Kelpies!!! Two of my ten dogs are working Kelpies, and fortunately, they don't display any ill-behavior as described by Mrose, perhaps it's the result of interacting with all the other dogs that negates their Dingo ancestry.

Howdy Mrose!!! You found the 'lil fellow in a car park? Was he abandoned? Lost? I applaud you for embracing him into your life!!! They truly are amazing dogs!!! Being from your great country of Australia, do you see many wild Dingos in your locale? OOO RAH's for you!!!!

and yeah, in a carpark. we didn't want another dog at the time and he had a collar so we tried to find his home, no-one claimed him. so we tried to give him away. and no body wanted him. so he's all mine now and i am so grateful he fell into my life

If you're in Australia I see no reason why he couldn't have dingo in him. :) Perhaps it's just a small part of him....and then again, maybe it really is just the kelpie x ACD mix that gives him his unique personality.
What ever it is, he seems to be a perfect fit for you. I'm so glad you saved him and gave him a good home.
