View Full Version : Is she a Labradoddle or Goldendoddle ?

I found her in a national Forrest. I have little Knowledge of breeds. I thought she was a Labradoodle. I had her at a Large festival yesterday and two different people ask me if she was a Goldendoodle. Here is a picture. She has double dew claws if that helps.

The pictures aren't showing up for me.
As far as double dew claws go...I've only seen two breeds with those. One is the Great Pyrenees, the other is the Beauceron. I'd love to be able to see the picture to speculate further.

To me it looks more Lab then golden, but the differences are hard to see. It just seems more Labish.

Looks more lab to me too, but the pictures are small and it's late and I'm tired. :)

No Golden. I am guessing Poodle, Pyrenese, Kuvas and Lab. A Poodle/Kuvas coat white, curly (does it feel coarse) Double dewclaws, Pyrenese and lab/size?

I agree. With double dew claws I'd expect something like a Great Pyr.

Her coat is very very soft. She is taller than my neighbor's Lab. She weighs 60lbs and is underweight.

Great Pyrs are huge dogs so it wouldn't surprise me that, if she had Great Pyr in her, she would be a very large dog.

No clue here, Dale . Whatever , she's so cute ! Petfinder had Ollie as a Golden /poodle .... but everyone thinks he's Golden / Chessie . Wish they could talk and I'd love to see the rest of his litter !

Sam ... sometimes I wonder about this with Ollie , as he's so leggy !
As far as I can tell...if she's a "doodle" she's a Labbiedoodle.
But as I said before, the double dew claws lead me to think perhaps more along the lines of Lab/Pyr or even a Doodle/Pyr, depending on what dogs are around your area.

Agree! The only thing that doesn't screem Labradoodle is the double dew claws. You never know with a mix I guess, there could be several breeds in her history. She does look an awful lot like a labradoodle though.:)

One of the people i spoke with at the festival was a vendor. He Introduced himself as a person the breeds Goldendoodles and ask me where i got mine. I told him i thought this dog is a Labradoodle. He looked closely and said he is pretty sure she is a Goldendoodle. He said it was hard to make out her breed because we had cut her coat off. I went back to that festival today to talk to this vendor. The festival is only about 50 miles from where i found this dog. It is a low populated area so i thought it possible that he may have bread this dog and may know of someone who lost their Goldendoodle. The weather had turned cold and rainy today. Many of the vendors closed early and he was one of the Vendors that was no longer there. I plan to take her to some breeders of Goldendoodle and Labradoodle at some point in the future. I will do this after her coat has grown back and her weight is normal. This will make it easier for them to recognize the breed. She was a perfect dog at this festival. The crowd was very large with many dogs, children, food and, noises everywhere. She walked so well into vendor booths, barns, Covered bridges, anywhere we wanted to go she went. We stayed out all day she was perfect. Thanks for the help. I will be sure to point out the double dewclaws to any breeders. The group seems to agree that it is an important clue.
Looks like a Labradoodle to me, but she could have some Pyr in her. I see some sighthound too, for some reason . . .
Whatever she is, she's very cute. Sweet looking face.

I'm not going to guess on her genetic make-up, but I will just say that double dews can happen to dogs in any breed & any mix. Although they are not common, they aren't specific to any one breed over another (just like rear dews don't indicate a dog is purebred). Hope this helps.

These pictures are before we removed her coat. The dark area are seed pods that are stuck to her fur. They were so bad that the fur on her face was matted. As i read and look at picture the more i am starting to believe that she is a Great Pyrs. The Goldendoodle breeder that looked at her said that she had the biggest feet he had seen on a Goldendoodle. The large feet and tail are very similar to what i have seen on pictures of Pyrs. For now i am going to call her a pure 100% Big White Dog.
More on when i found her http://www.chazhound.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36802

I can't seem to get the picture link to work. :(
Just to repeat what stevinski said...labradoodles and goldendoodles aren't breeds they're crossbreeds/mutts.
I like your breed description. :D 100% Big White Dog. I think you should stick to that one. :D Hehehe...it doesn't really matter what mix she is. So long as she has a loving home...which it seems like she does.

I believe stevinski stated that they are breeds.

Come on people.........
This is a dog. Does it really matter what Dale calls her?
He is doing a great job. Kudos to you for rescueing her and putting so much thoughtful effort into her.
The way you people are coming off is degrading this pup for no good reason.
Save it for the people breeding them or buying them.
Dale,
Are you keeping her? How is she doing now? ( I read the thread you listed).

I couldn't agree more!!! I get so sick of everyone just HAVING to make that point every time some mentions a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle...why can't people just zip it....ENOUGH ALREADY.
Yes, this is from a frustrated but proud LABRADOODLE owner...

Whatever she is Dale, I think you both found a pot of gold in the woods...kudos!!!

I have to agree, enough is enough.
We all love dogs. No, we don't like "designer breeds" but my goodness, this man saved the dog... leave him be!
And your pictures are pretty small, Dale, can you upload them through Chaz. I have a hard time seeing all of her, lol. Call me troubled. :p

Yeah I agree with that about the sight hound.
And I do think its kinda pointless to correct what he calls his dog. If he wants to call her a labradoodle, goldendoodle, or my favorite Big White Dog lol. Its fine the world will not fall of its axis ;) .

Yes i am keeping her. I feel some guilt about not putting forth an effort to find her original owner. There are no towns near the place that i located her and it is visited by people from many locations. I spoke with some Park Rangers about her and found out that she had been hanging around the hiking trails and campgrounds all summer.
She is doing very well. The first two weeks she would not allow me to touch her unless i cornered her. She is becoming a loving dog now. I am still working on the basics like recalling her and house breaking. These things will come now that she has lost her fear of me. She has increased her body weight by about 20% in four weeks.

You have nothing to feel guilty about, you absolutely did the right thing by taking her in. It sounds like she was hopelessly lost.
Wow, you've really made progress. She's finally HOME....good for both of you!:)

She looks like a Labrador/Poodle cross to me. Whatever she is, she's adorable!! :)
I think people just wanted to explain that the breed as such doesn't exist. We all know that those dogs are nothing but mix breeds, but I guess it doesn't hurt if we educate the ones that doesn't know it, so they won't go out there and support irrisponsible BYB and waste loads of money while doing so :p ......

He asked if its goldenpoodle or labradoodle.. so they kindly replied its not a breed but a mix/mutt. They aint starting a fight or whatnot. They just stated a fact. You cant mix 2 breeds and call it something else.
Why does it matter what she is? Its a dog that found a happy home and from what I see so far is a good person who will take care of her.
Dale she is so pretty.. shes lucky she found you.
Big White Dog is adorable, and very lucky to have been found by you! Don't feel guilty.......sounds like doggy had been living pretty rough. Good for you for getting her back to health and your patience in helping her adjust to her new home and surroundings.
