I took Missy to Burr Oak park today after dog training classes with Maddie. While I was there I noticed a small group (about 3 people ) clustered around this one lady and her two dogs. I was trying to make out what the dogs were when suddenly the larger one darted toward us. I didn't know they were off leash, so I braced myself and said "puppy!" to Missy. The owner called her dog, and he came right back to her, so I was pleased.

She called out to me and asked if Missy was a German shepherd and if I showed her, and then asked if the dogs could meet. While the dogs were checking each other out she started talking to her little group again. She went on about how the breed is a best kept secret, how the waiting list is long, and there aren't hardly any breeders. She told them that they were related to curs and were known as squirrel dogs to most. She stopped and said they're temperament is similar to GSD's and how they're do-it-all dogs, ect ect.

By this time Missy was ready to keep walking, and so was I, but I'm telling you what. Those dogs were beautiful - and I was pretty much in awe. They're structure reminded me of a GSD, but they were medium sized - a little bit bigger than Maddie (a Cocker). The color and coat got me, they were social, graceful and had a smooth gate...

She was talking about getting OFA and CERF cert, lifetime guarantees, and gave one lady her phone number when I was walking away...

I have been searching for a pic ever since, and this is almost exactly what I'm talking about

Anyone know what it is? A designer breed, maybe? If so, what breeds?
I hate to admit that I keep thinking about those dogs and I'd hate it if I fell into a designer dog breed trick :p

Oh, I know, I could kick myself for not just asking... but Missy was *really* ready to go, if you know what I mean, and at the time I wasn't interested because I thought it was a byb scam... until I was walking away and heard about the eye and hip tests...

It wasn't a Spitz. I would've recognized it, the structure was all wrong. The color to red...

This is really going to bug me... :( lol

Not sure if its the same breed. But when we lived on the old farm we had a neighbor with a dog very VERY similar to that. Only she wasent red she was white with a grey saddle back. But she was built like a GSD but smaller like the size you said. And she moved the way you have described these dogs moving. I knew her well the people used to babysit me and then when I got older I would just go to visit. The dogs name was Brownie (weird cause she was white and silver grey) and she was real sweet. I always figured she was a mix though I never asked. And I have never seen a dog that looked her until now. Almost reminds me of a Shiloh Shepherd maybe?

Brownie was a multi-purpose dog though. She would help take care of their few goats and horses. She also from what I remembered went on hunting trips. I don't know for sure if she was hunting dog but I know she went......I wish I still lived close by I could walk over and ask......Dang it now im wondering lol.

Right here!!!! This is almost identical to how Brownie looked size wise. They say its a Shiloh Shepherd but it looks smaller then the Shiloh Shepherds on dogbreedinfo so I don't know. Brownie was a bit smaller though.

Okay... I've been searching, and I drove through the park (because it was raining and I didn't want to stop) in a secret hope that I would see them again :lol-sign:

Darn, Pixie... now we're both crazy Ohioians... but now at least I know I'm not alone :D That picture looks A LOT like the dogs I saw... they weren't as long as that one. Maybe just proportioned diffrently. But the coat and head and everything looks very similar

They look a little like the NAID, but the NAIDs are too big to be the same breed of dog I saw... unless there were miniature NAIDs? lol

In my searching I've found some very... wierd... stuff.
