I know that diet has alot to do with it. I am changing his food but I just haven't decided which brand I want to go with yet. The closest store is over an hour away and it does carry canidae, natural balance, and eagle pack. I just have to decide which one I want to go with. Until then I've added salmon oil to his food. His coat is so shiny and soft and he really likes the oil.
I've also been using earthbath shampoo. I used a flea shampoo on him 2 months ago and a couple days after that I noticed the dandruff was terrible! I got him earthbath and I've used it twice and it's really clearing up alot. My question is how often should I use it to help with the dandruff? Would it be best to bathe him more often right now to clear it up or will that just make it worse?

The main reason probably why dogs have dandruff, it's because they are not properly rinsed after soaping their entire body..Just like humans, the presence of dandruff in our hair is caused by improper rinsing after taking a bath..There are some particles that's still left on our hair which causes dandruff..

He gets rinsed very well after a bath. We didn't have a problem at the other house we lived at. What I'm thinking is since we moved and we don't have county water anymore his skin might be drying out from the Iron in our water. I have the same problem with dry itchy skin and scalp and my doctor said it's from the high iron in our water. I use lots of lotions for itch and dry skin after i do dishes and shower to help with it. I'm thinking that's more of what it might be.

Roxy got some really band dandruff from a not so good rinse after a bath a few weeks ago.
I've started putting some Herring oil in their food everyday, they love it and it helps promote healthy skin and coats.
Both of them have gorgeous shiny coats and no more dandruff!
