Got to love it!!!!!!!!!!

Well we had a few people out looking at our pups. Well they were looking for a black and tan male. I told them on the phone I did not have one avail. That I had female black and tans only. Well they came out and did not know what to say.

Miss Fritz is a Red Sable. She is 22 inches at the shoulder, fair size for a female. Her weight is 70 lbs which is just right for her. Then I get how come the mom is so small?

I said she is just right for her breeding as she is a working line dog. Oh whats that? I guess they expected a very large German Shepherd.

So tell me what you expect the size of a female GSD should be? Especially 3 months after she has had her litter?

Our female GSD is 73 lbs, and I've always thought she was a good sized female. Not sure how tall she is at the shoulder, I'd measure but she's napping!

I always thought that working line GSDs were bigger. :o The ones I see at shows are much smaller than the ones I see at trials. There is a working GSD breeder here and some of her dogs come into my work -- the males are usually a good 90 pounds or so. My girl was 110 pounds. Personally I think their weight should be in standard -- once you get bigger dogs, their owners start calling them Shiloh shepherds or King shepherds or "giant" shepherds -- a German shepherd is a German shepherd; big size doesn't change the breed or make them special.

It's good that they have questions. When we found homes for our pups, I was glad when people asked things, because I knew they wanted to understand as much as they could before buying one. The only thing that would bother me, would that maybe they don't know because haven't done any research at all....??? Good luck in finding lovely homes for your pups!! :D

She sounds perfect for a female. Hondo's mother is about 22-23 inches at the shoulder and I think she's in the 65-70lbs range. Hondo and his brothers are way bigger than their mother already, but the female in the litter has taken her mothers petite figure. Hondo's father is a 100lb black and red GSD. I really did wish that Hondo would have been been between his mothers and fathers size, but as he grows I'm beggining to see alot of his father in him. At 6 months he's already 26 inches at the shoulders and 75 lbs and he's still very lean. I'm a little disappointed because one reason I picked him was because he was a little smaller than his brothers but he is the biggest now. I really do prefer smaller dogs and I thought Hondo would have been a decent size, but it looks like i'll have another Caza running around. :rolleyes: :D
