I have been using a puppy shampoo on Lizzie just because I like that it is tearless and the smell stays longer on her but I have heard that when dogs get older they need a stronger shampoo. Is that true???
What are some good shampoos that the smell of the shampoo is going to last on her??? Also I think she "may" have some sensitive skin to some shampoos and that is why I used the puppy shampoo or a dry skin shampoo.
Any suggestions???

I just ordered "The Stuff" and it's absolutely amazing, especially the leave in conditioner. Sophie's coat has never felt better.

My favorite shampoos are earthbath:

Especially the "Oatmeal & Aloe" and the "Mediterranean Magic" smell really awesome and they both work well on my dog's coat.

I also use Earthbath. It's the only shampoo I buy for my dogs. The smell lasts for a while, their coats are sooo soft and shiny, it doesn't strip the oils, it's very gentle and all natural, etc. I absolutely love it! I've used the 'oatmeal and aloe' one, 'Mango Tango', 'Mediterranian Magic', and their conditioner. Eathbath isn't found in big chain petstores though, it's only available in the smaller pet specialty stores as far as I know.
If it's more convenient for you to get shampoo at PetsMart instead of a small pet store, Lambert Kay Fresh & Clean is pretty good. I have used it before when I needed shampoo desperately and the only store still open (late at night when I needed it) was PetsMart. I know a lot of people who love it and use it all the time.

Actually, most Petco's carry it. Not all the available varieties though. :)

This is true, I got Charlie's earthbath at PetCo and they had a nice display for it. Petsmart doesn't carry it though.

I heard from a friend in the US that they don't, but maybe that was just the one near them or maybe they just missed it. I live in Canada and we don't have PetCo here, so I was jsut going by what I had heard :).

I just bought some Paul Mitchell Oatmeal formula puppy shampoo. It smells amazing!!!! Seemed to work good too :)
I use Chris Christensen's Black on Black (and White on White) for Dakota. OMG, I love these shampoos. They're really pricey, but I use them about 3 times a year, and they keep him looking great. In between "full grooms", I wash him with this really yummy peppermint shampoo called Buddy Wash. I get it at Trader Joe's. Ripley only gets bathed with this stuff or my own shampoo - his skin is very sensitive and doesn't react well to most dog shampoos.

I use Kenic Shampoo. They have an hypo-allergenic shampoo if you worry about sensitivity to shampoo. It works great.

I second the votes for both Earthbath (Mango Tango is my fave, but too fruity smelling for some) and Buddy Wash. It's what we use in the Spaw at work, and the dogs always smell amazing (not to mention soft!) Plus they're both super gentle and all natural :)

Another vote for Nature's Specialties - awesome shampoos and conditioners, we used them in the salon for awhile.
A cheaper alternative that keeps its "scent" longer is either Tomlyn Nova Pearls or any of the Veterinary Formula shampoos. Petco used both in their salons, and I loved the stuff.
Speaking of The S*T*U*F*F... I loooooove it! I recently converted a die-hard Pure-Paws user to it, and they haven't looked back since!
My favorite conitioner is from Mr. Christals - I believe it's called Rejuvenating Treatment, and it smells like orchids.

I second (third) that for The Stuff. I've used it on my coated dogs and my clients dogs for many years. Have to be careful about "where" you use it though. Lol I used it on severals dogs while they were standing on my kitchen floor, hardwoods, and used a bit much one day . Mopped the floor. Thought I was fine after it dried. Walked across the floor later in socks and slid, feet going right out from under me. It acts as a silicone based product would and leaves a residue that lasts thru several mild shampooings, (you can see it on your grooming table over time) and it also takes some effort to get off your floors! Also like Plush Pup conditioner and Cintec (sp?)

I highly recommend Earthbath. We got the Tea Tree Oil and Aloe Vera formula for Kai, and his coat looks amazing. His coat is so soft and shiny.

My dog loved these shampoos and bar soaps and I was very happy with the results! I started to sell them online since people around here were soo happy with it. :)

Ditto. We use the Oatmeal and Aloe and the conditioner on our boys and they have beautiful coats. :)
My sister has always used plain ol johnson and johnson no tears baby shampoo on her yorkie (he's always had a short puppy cut and doesn't show) Is this safe or not? We've never had any health problems or dry skin or anything.
