View Full Version : Dog with large bubble growning on his side

I don't know how to explain it. It is about the size of a golf ball and I now know that it is full of blood and plasma. I think its plasma. I have had to draw it out with a syringe a couple times but it keeps growing back. The fluid does not stink and I don't see any infection. Also it doesn't bother him at all. Is it a foreign body that has gotten in there? Or a BB even?
Not too concerned at this point but I'm getting there. It has been there 2 weeks.

I would definitely say it is time for a visit to the vet!

Time for the vet, definitely. There could be, as you suspect, something in there that your dog's body is trying to isolate and reject, but whatever it is, you really do need to get to the bottom of it, as it's not getting any better on its own.
Let us know what you find out, please, we'll be wondrin' and worryin'

It could just be a cyst does it go up and down on its own, If the fluid is clear and not smelly it could be that, but your right a trip to the vet might be in order to find out for sure

It goes back up within 24 hours of draining it, but it doesn't go down on it's own. It's really funny, he shows no pain at all but then again he is a hardcore when it comes to any pain. Our cat will reach out and slap him on the face, and then have to get her claws unstuck from his face and he just looks at her and doesn't move an inch. I've never seen a dog the didn't react to pain at all.
You guys just confirmed my thoughts. Time to go to the Vet. I'll keep you updated, and thanks.
German Wirehair Pointer by the way. 10 months and 95lbs. He's going to be large, I'm thinking. LOL

Yes...it sounds like a cyst for sure. It will probably have to ben taken off by the vet.

My girlfriend has been raising brits and GWP for hunting and show for about 10 years. She has many awards for both (Some big ones). Her kennel name is mojos. The GWP that I am referring to is named Angus.
The last litter that we had (5 pups), every purchaser called to tell us that they didn't have to train them to point at all. The first day in the field all of them were pointing. I don't know that much about training but it seems to me that this is unusual.

Okay, that would explain the 'Angus' lol! You'll understand my question when I tell you that we raise Angus cattle.
Don't know if it's unusual not to have to train the dogs to point. We haven't had to train the Filas to herd; the ones from good working lines do it instinctively. Maybe you can chalk it up to producing Pointers from good working lines. :)

I work at a vet and we see a lot of these... They are called abcesses. The doctor has to pop them with a blade and put some antibiotics on them. It's a very sterile procedure and very quick... Takes about 5 minutes in all.

Was your dog neutered or spayed not long ago? Beacuase sometimes lumps can't remember what there called but they will appear after being neutered or spayed.
