here is an illustration i did for a woman that ordered something i sent and then didnt' pay for it...i did it as a card and i thought maybe you could use it as a fund raiser for your shelter..if so..i have one little place to fix where there was fire damage..and then i could scan and send you the permission to have it for a Christmas card..let me know
same goes for mary supermarket..i did it just for fun..would be a reminder on how much work a litter of puppies can be
Awww that's so sweet. I love them both!

That's a great idea, Smkie!
And if you'd like, Homeless, I'll see if I can come up with a Christmas verse for the card. Selling packs of the cards would make a wonderful fund raiser.

You know, Smkie, a picture of Raining Cats and Dogs would be a great thing for shelter art . . . Just don't step in a poodle. ;)

Aww, smkie, thank you! Those are adorable. I love them. Yeah, I could see using them as a fundraiser for the shelter! They would probably be great as Christmas cards. And we're also having an auction/sale next month and I bet they'd find good uses for them there too. Hmm. :)
Thanks!

LOL, Smkie - can you tell I've been an instigator my whole life? :D
If you don't mind, send me an attachment of the sledding dogs in a little larger picture so I can really get into those faces and get some inspiration . . . I'll have a verse for those cards!
Just for giggles, here are a couple. I did the Jack Russell verse about my sister's little Jack Russell Terror . . . You can guess who the first one is about! ;)
Wreck the halls with puppies playing,
Fa la la la la ~ la la la la
Tear down curtains, cushions, ev?rything,
Fa la la la la ~ la la la la
Down we now the kitchen trash can,
Fa la la ~ la la la ~ la la la
Oops, there goes the dinner ham,
Fa la la la la ~ la la la la
Braec's Song
Dashing through the house
A frenzied JRT ~
O'er the couch I go,
Yapping all the way ~
White bob-tail held straight
showing my delight
What fun it is to chase and bark
at Jingle Ball all night!
Jingle Balls, jingle balls,
Chase them down the hall ~
Oh what fun it is to run
o'er anyone in the way ~ hey!
Jingle balls, jingle balls,
Chase them down the hall ~
Oh what fun it is to run
o'er anyone in the way ~ hey!
I've got one I'm working on that's a takeoff on Edgar Allen Poe's "Annabelle Lee" called . . . . "My Annabelle's Flea"
Okay, you can all groan now! :D

i will get that one cleaned up and sent to u this afternoon..hope it helps! I had that Mary image in my head for no particular reason..but after i posted the first one..i thought hey..that might drive the point home..people do not realize just how much work a litter really is..there is room for type on it..so if you want anything put on like your shelter name or a phrase either i can..or you can if you have photoshop..let me know

How'd you guess, Breeze, ROFL! :D

You know, there's a lot of artistic talent here. There's no reason it wouldn't be possible to put together a Chazhound member-driven set of greeting cards that members affiliated with rescue and shelter organizations could use for fund-raising purposes . . .
That's true Renee. And an excellent idea. I've never had cards printed before. I suppose it's pretty easy to have that done though, eh? (Yes I AM Canadian. :) )
Well I'd be up for that. Can we use photography? I've got some neat pictures. One I have in mind is of one of my horses. :D

I have some nature ones from around here that I bet people from this area would by since they love their home.

That photo is magical, Saje! It would make a fantastic card.
Thanks. That's my horse pasetyna. For some reason I have two great photos of her backlit with the sun shining around her like that. She's very photogenic. :D
So, what's the next step.
Do you think with my shelter I can sell cards and then insist that the money goes towards the spaying/neutering of animals that get adopted? The city gives them food... and the spca helps them with toys and stuff like that. I'd like to be able to get more animals fixed.
I like this one too. I didn't take it Steve's mom did but I'm sure she wouldn't mind me using it.

Well. I've got lots. I won't fill this thread with them or you'll probably get annoyed. LOL I know. I'll set up a gallery to view. :D

I found a local company..simply a stationary shop that sold the cards in bulk...unfolded along with the right sized envelopes...i sent Renee a couple and CT should have two in a couple days..so they can attest to the quality..they were not too expensive..then you can either print directly on the card or as i did..affix the print to the front. I found plastic shields at a store that is an office supply..they were pennies on the dollar..all in all not to bad. If you want a great cheap ink refill source..pm me. I use this alllllll the time and it is loads cheaper than buying cartridges..in fact they have an epson that retails for 59 dollars that you can put an auto feed in and never have to mess with those profit making cartridges again. I don't know if it is proper to promote a company on a thread so i won't until i am told it is ok.
Ok! I'm going to look around and see what kind of options they have here. I'm quite keen on this idea. :)

The cards Smkie sent me were what made me think of it. They really do look great and are just as professional as something we'd expect from our Smkie.
I e-mailed this to Smkie - thought it might make a good rescue poster with good illustration:
(think of it with the cadence of "The Christmas Song" - you know, the one that starts out "chestnuts roasting on an open fire . . . ")
Big Mutts with sad eyes in a kennel run,
Young dogs nipping at your toes,
Tiny pups, with their noses all cold
all make it hard to turn away.
You know that they would like to play
With lots of toys and treat balls all the day.
And your soft caress would be so warm
to old ones abandoned and forlorn!
And so I'm offering this quick advice
To all who'd love a pup or two
Love them your best, for they'll love you too
Adopt one and take love home today!

sams club has a box of paper that i use..don't know if you can get it anywhere else, but it is the best i have found..ilford..had to go find the box..ilford gallerie smooth gloss paper..professional inkjet photo range.100sheets for about 25 dollars. Each sheet can be used to make the front of two cards..that is if you don't print directly on the paper. don't waste your time on kodak...gack

Ilford makes great products! When I did a lot of B/W photography that's all I used.
Agree completely on the Kodak! For film I've found the Fujicolor Superia 800 speed is great. I can use it in virtually any situation and get good results.

dont laugh but all my film comes from the dollar store..everyonce and a while i get a roll that jams but oh my do i save big bucks and my prints come out just fine! (i always shoot 100 or 200) why do you use 800? Indoors? does the grain look large?
Renee750il
03-24-2005, 04:09 PM
There's not any graininess to speak of - much less than the 100 and 200 speed films I've used, plus I can get action shots with it, which would be impossible with the slow film. It's a professional grade film and is incredibly forgiving of lousy lighting and all sorts of situations. I got turned on to it when I was shooting professional wrestling matches, lol! A couple of the magazine photographers thought I was staging the photos I took, since that was the way they did theirs. With a good camera and lens, fast film and a good flash you can often make chicken salad out of chicken scratch :p
Well I made this gallery of photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/laescritorajj/sets/182934/ but they chopped them in weird ways. Still, it gives you an idea

Those are some great shots, Saje (brush??? lol)
The one of Maverick looking up with one ear sticking up is just begging to go on something.
LOL Saje was already taken. Go figure. I mispelled it as per usual. Who ever took it probably thought they were spelling it correctly. LOL
Well anyone can use them for fundraisers. Just ask and I'll send the original
