Does anybody know a really good brand of food for this? Romeo has gone to the vet in complete agony ( :( ) from his urinary tract problem and the only food they prescribe is Iams and I dont want to feed him that. Is there a really good food for this that you guys know of? And anything besides Innova because unfortunately I cannot find that food anywhere over here. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Guess we'll have to do some looking for you. We can't have Romeo feeling bad!

Is the Iams that they recommend prescription food? Did the cat have any crystals in his urine or was it just a UTI? From what I understand additional moisture seems to be very helpful in preventing FUS the best thing to ensure this would be a diet of all or mostly canned food. JMO.

Hello,

I don't know if you ever found a good feline urinary cat food.
But after about 2 months of constant care and $850 to save my cat Charcoal, they recommended a good one and we feed all 3 of our cats the same food.

Personally, I think it smells absolutely awful! But the cats seem to love it and none of them have had any urinary problems for over a year now.

It's "Urinary S/O" for felines. I'm not sure of the maker, but on my bill it says (Waltham) next to it. I get a 16.5 lb bag a month (dry food) for about thirty dollars plus tax. So far, I have only gotten it from my vet...and I don't believe it is a prescription cat-food. My vet didn't recommend canned food.

In fact I was just going online to see if I can find somewhere to purchase it that I might be able to get it cheaper, and your forum question came up in the search.

And one more thing about urinary problems in cats that I just chanced upon, and it's probably more important than the food.....

Give them "distilled" water!

Apparently tap water has so many impurities and calcium in it, that a cat's uninary tract can't handle it. And sometimes the crystals in their urine can be caused just by the tap water. And the cats seem to drink a lot more water now...the first few days they drank about 3 X the amount of water they used to!

Hope this helps.

Angel

PS.....this is the internet address at PetRX for this food...although it's cheaper at the vet's office than at PetRX, you'll know what to look for or ask for.

my trouble had problems (struvite crystals) and the vet suggested a prescription diet, which i of course refused.

putting him (and the 4 other cats) on a raw diet soleved his issues within days. i'm going to take him in for another urinalysis in january and expect it to come out normal.
