If anyone has lost a dog or found a dog, they are probably familiar with the many sites on the internet for searching and posting. I'm one of those looking desperately for a missing pet and while it could be a great resource, it can be very frustrating as well. I don't want to alienate any of the webmasters who are offering a noble service, but some do it better than others. I would like a discussion of who in your opinion seems to offer the best service and get the word out for them. The world thinks ebay when it comes to online auctions, people who are trying to find or reunite a pet with it's owner should know exactly who to go to as well.
I'll post my thoughts on some sites soon, as I was amazed at how different the approach could be. Hopefully you've never lost a dog. It can be a very helpless feeling.

Petfinder is the best in my opinion.

I found a dog a few years ago that had a www. tag on his collar. Thought it was great. It didn't have their address, but it did have the website (tho now i don't remember what it was) so i left my info there. When the owner got home they gave me a call. Ended up they lived a few blocks down. It was fourth of July and the dog had been frighten. She cried all day in my house (she really earned her name BAby) with all the pops and banging.

Our rabies tags (in Canada) have a website you can log on to, enter the # on the tag and (if the owner has entered the dogs information) you can pull up a picture, address and phone number. There's no way to get personal contact information without the tag #.
