Pit Bull" is a somewhat ambiguous term, and can be used to refer to a number of dog breeds. However, most breeders would agree that pit bull generally refers to the American Pit Bull Terrier. This on four-legged beast is a somewhat modern version of a breed of dog that has existed since at least the Roman Empire.

As far as I know they were developed in the 1800's when bull baiting was popular.

Sites like that make me want to scream. People that like are so blind, that you could talk to them till you are blue in the face, and they will still say that all pits should be shot. Why is it major news if a pit bits someone, but if the family golden or lab mauls the neighbors kid, its not even a blip on the radar.

I sent them an email with all of the positive websites I could find...Temperament scores (Roxy knows what I mean) from about 5 different breeds *Shetland Sheepdog scored 66.9%...lower than the APBT* with about the same number tested in each group so they can't say I was biased...I sent them pics of 2 famous pit bulls (Petey - Little Rascals and Sgt. Stubby - army pit bull) and included their stories...sent a website dedicated to pits and kids...gave them the breed standard temperament of the APBT (UKC) and the AmStaff (AKC)....ummmmmm, and a lot of other stuff. So we'll see if they have the cajones to respond. :)

I just sent another one, after going through their whole website. This one debunked their articles (lack of information, etc) as well as their "facts" which all came from ONE site that also listed the other aspects (training and such) that were in favor of the pit bulls. Apparently these people don't expect others to notice they are biased and post incomplete information.

edit.. After looking at the gallery I think this guy is joking or is really bad at making an arguement. Those are great pictures of Pit Bulls doing what they do best.
