Does anyone know any information about dog lung abnormalities or a website that has info on them? What about dogs inhaling food/matter into their lungs?

We are scrambling for information over here. Two weeks ago Wrigley was rushed to the Emergency vet having a very hard time breathing. He was diagnosed with pneuomia--given Lasix (diuretic) put on IV's given antibiotics and then came home after a day and half of being there and put on Clavamox.

He seemed to have recovered fine took his medication and now he is experiencing the same symptoms......we took him to the vet this morning and they are racking their brains (and running all kinds of expensive tests) to figure something out. They do not think he has fluid on the lungs and it seem to be only the left lung that is experiencing difficulty exhaling.

What's so strange is that both times it has suddenly came one. One minute completely fine playing ect and then we go to do something physical (nothing harder than what he has done before) and he stops dead weight poops and then breaths really heavily..(he is not having seizures by the way we have thought of that.)

Any places where I can look up information or anyone who has information please help!

From the description of his signs & symptoms, I'm of the opinion his pulmonary edema is cardiogenic in origin. Upon stoppage of the Lasix his symptoms reoccur, that's what of key interest concerning his ailment.

How do you tell them you don't want to spend so much money on all these tests! We spent $500 2 weeks ago for the Emergency stay....then $200 this morning for our regular vet to take chest exrays and look him over...now they have transferred him to Purdue University which is here in town--and they want him to stay in ICU for 3 days doing all of these tests and want to charge $1500.....I just don't know what to do...
We didn't feel bad about the $500, and thought the $200 this morning was fine--but another $1500--when is it going to stop!?!
I just want Wrigley to feel better--and I feel guilty for feeling this way but is all of this really necessary?

They have no idea what is wrong with him..could be pneomia, cancer, or a fungal infection...they do not know....

It's the ICU stay that is costing the most...do you think I can tell them we want regular care and not ICU (he's not on any meds or IV's currently)

Ouch!!!! That is rather costly and I'm rather puzzled as to why your vets have yet to come to a definitive diagnosis considering the number of procedures he's been subjected to as described by you. Perhaps you might seek out a vet who'd provide a second opinion with your budget in mind. Do hope all goes well.....keep us informed!!!
