The article does not have much information. I wonder how much the microchipping there costs?

I would love if we had to have this law. A lot less dogs would be abadoned on the side of a road if they could be tracked by microship to there owner.

It says it's only about $10 in the article. It's not expensive, it's no hassle, it's quick and easy. If you can't afford $10 then you surely can't afford a dog, IMO.

This doesn't make sense...there's no law to microchip .

It's in the UK. There might be a law over there going into effect.

Oh that's terribly sad that they don't want to part with a few measly dollars to keep their dogs safe!! Poor dogs :(

Personaly I think it should be someone's choice to get their dog MC'd or not. NO ONE has the right to tell someone they have to.

Granted both my dogs are MC'd but I am trying to see the other persons point.

There are other options to a MC. Tattooing is one of them.

I agree, but abandoning their dogs over $10?!

my dogs are tattooed, (Though keetah & cerise are tatooed and chipped...breeders tattooed them, we chipped them when they were spayed...) as are my cats....But if a chip was going to be $10? That's a steal ! O.O I would have gotten one of those.

Kay - I agree. Most people are just misinformed.

It cost $50 for each dog for me so $10 I would jump on

do we have the right to tell them that they have to have permanent identification on their dog? because that's what it comes down to. we require that people license dogs. to me, it's the same thing.

of course, at least around here, the licensing is barely enforced. just like pretty much everything else pertaining to dogs.

My two cats and two dogs are microchipped. It cost me about $30 per microchip which was kindof a "mandatory" donation to this rescue group SADSAC (Save A Dog, Save A Cat), so basically the vet did it free. At first the dogs wore the tags but given that they are plastic they didn't last long :D . The cats don't wear collars because they just take them off. They HATE collars for some reason. That's why I got them microchipped, that way they'd have some form of identification on them. :)

I think its a good way to track dogs. People talk a lot about there *rights*, but many times they are the ones who do not want to microchip there dogs because they might dump them in the future.

In order to drive a car you need a license, in order to own a dog it needs a microchip, I like it :D

We get tracked by many things in life and are required to show identification for many things, why not dogs?

From an animal lovers perspective many less dogs would be dumped, many more dogs would find there owners when they got lost and many more owners would be held accountable if a dog was clearly neglected. The only people here that will lose are the animal abusers, which is definatly what most of us want right?
