It depends on where you live and the size of your dog. At least it depended on size at the vet clinic I used to work at. The smaller the dog the less it costs.
Why? What's your vet charging?

It cost me about $120 to get Zoe spayed, and she stayed overnight at the vet.

How much did it cost to get Lady spayed?

In many areas they have places that will help get animals spayed and neutered for cheaper costs.

the vet said it would be like 300$ so we are now thinking about calling the pound lady, the one thats my dads friend and see if its okay if we leave her there one night and get it done.

$300 is too high. I don't like fooling around to save a few bucks, though. I feel it depends on the breed , the age and the size. It's really to be safe than sorry .... any " fixing " through a SPCA or HS will be done by a " newbie " vet. I had an adult Golden fixed by my vet before placing as a rescue.. $175. You have to go by your gutt and your pocketbook. Plus, your peace of mind without heats , I would say would be worth alot !!

It cost us close to $400 for Crosbie to be neutered.

But he also had an infection a few times...

Just have to point out that at both shelters I worked for, Cornell University veterinarians (not students) did our spay/neuter programs for the animals in the shelter and for the low-cost program available to the public.

Depends on the place and the size of the dog. My local vet usually spays for about $80 unless the dog is huge.
