okay I have a situation with my weim (Jaser). He is very very good about not going to the bathroom in the house. We got him housebroken very early and really have no problems with him since.

He is four now and still does great at home, but when we bring Jasper over to my in-laws condo he goes into the living room and marks his territory by squirting a little urine on the furniture! YIKES!!!!! My in-laws freaked! He has done this two different times now. He didn't always do this when we went over there. Today we even went outside before going into the condo and made Jasper go to the bathroom, which he did, but hen soon after we got upstairs he did it again. What is making him do this and how can we stop it?

You know what's making him do this. He's marking his new "turf" like male dogs do.

;)

I would suggest keeping him ON leash for a few visits, and making sure he is as empty as possible before going inside.

I understand what your saying but he has been there many times in the past and never had a problem. It is only recently (the past two times) that he has done this. Why would he just start now?

Have your in laws gotten any new pets recently? Or could there be a scent of another animal in the house? Perhaps someone else was visiting with their animal...

nope no new pets and my in-laws don't let any other pes in their place. Any thoughts?

I feel personally that you are wasting your efforts trying to figure out what brought this on.

Perhaps he is just feeling more "studly" lately.

Prevention is the best course of action in this situation.

:D

I would keep the dog on leash for the next several visits.

we'll give that a try next time. So you think keep him on leash for the entire visit?

That could be a problem later when we move in there...

Is he still intact?

There could be females going into heat in their building as well that he can sense.

Like Red said - its a male thing. Riot is just getting into this lovely stage as well. He gets a stern "No" when he does it on things he shouldn't be. ie, the side of his kennel, his breeders BRAND NEW grooming table, some random peoples bags on the ground. I have to watch him consistantly and watch for that "lining up thing" that males do before they squirt. Each time I see him do it, I tell him "Leave it" and he'll walk away looking like he wasn't going to do anything to start with lol
