Pink Eye?

Just a few moments ago, I called my dog over for some bonding time and noticed his left eye was red. There was a small amount of discharge, so I cleared it away. About 15-20 minutes later, I noticed more discharge. Could it be that he has pink eye? If so, is there anything over the counter that I can buy to rid of it? Or could this be something more serious?

I'm open to all advice, suggestions.

Edit: I looked up something I can give him called Dr. Goodpet Eye C. Has anyone tried it?

Is the gunge Green or yellow?
Is he sleeping in a draft at night?
Bailey has gloopy eyes at the minute, it is not green so i am not thinking of infection.
I just wash it regularly with salt water.
If you do think that it is Conjuntivitis (pink eye) then a trip to the vet is probably needed for some Anti-biotics.

Viral conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) usually affects only one eye and causes eye watering and a "light" discharge. A bacterial conj. affects both eyes and generates a greenish discharge. If it's viral, no meds are needed as it will clear up within 48 hours; bacterial requires antibiotic eyedrops. For relief, apply a warm compress.

Looks like he's got an infection. The discharge is a light green, although I notice that when I clear away his eye, the redness goes away (or lightens to a pink color) before returning when it discharges again. I've been applying a warm compress to it (much to his displeasure) and plan on visiting the pet store/vet for antibiotics. Thanks B+R and Gigs for your feedback. It's very much appreciated. :)
