Komondor

Well we had a pure bred komondo be dropped off at our shelter by it's owner. His name was george and he was SOOO sweet! He was shaved down so he didn't have the long fur and I was wondering about this breed. Really we don't see many of them at all....this is the first one I've seen and if they are all like George I'm in love! lol :p

He looked a lot like this with a coat shaved a little shorter:

Anyone have any experience with this breed?

Good grief! Someone abandoned him? Why???? What kind of reason did the owner give?

OMG THEY SHAVED HIM!!!! lol Komodors are supposed to have long matted dreadlocks!

I knew two of them before, they were guard dogs for sheep and property.. they were NASTY!! you couldn't even get close to them!

I've never met another at the show grounds though.

I don't know why they dropped him off at the shelter. I didn't read it....I just saw it said owner surrender. Good new though is George went home today :) He is now in a very good family who has a standard poodle and volunteers at the shelter with me :)

They probably had him shaved so it was easier to take care of his coat.....that would be my guess at least.

Koms are neat dogs, though I have to admit I would keep one shaved too.

I've heard sooo much about them being mistrustful of strangers yet every one I have met has absolutely loved me upon meeting me.

RD that's what I've been reading too. That they are very mistrustful of strangers, but George was VERY friendly. Less all over you, more reserved, but not mistrustful. Definetly friendly. :)
