Hi all.

New to this forum. What brings me here is my 14 YO pomeranian, who still has normal eyesight, hearing and mental abilities. Her problem is her little body is giving out on her, and she's having a heck of a hard time getting around. She gives no indication she's in pain, but I give her a baby aspirin a day to help with likely arthritis.

She can no longer squat when going to the bathroom, so it goes all over her tiny legs. I have an appt. with her doctor on Monday to discuss anything that will help her (I've tried lots of medicines already, to no avail).

She has quite a history: underwent $3K surgery to correct a herniated disc at 3 years old, had a false positive heartworm test at age 4 (no big deal, but sent me into hysterics), had her trachea collapse at age 5 (required surgery). Through all this, my doctor calls her the Miracle Dog, as no one expected her to make it past her first surgery.

I'm struggling on whether or not to search for something to make her better AGAIN, or just leave her be, and let her tell me when it's time. She's just so mentally alert, and makes me angry and frustrated that her body isn't up to her mental abilities.

My 16 YO horse is on Adequan for arthritis. Anyone have their dog on this?

Sorry for my mumbling on...I'm just so very distraught at the idea of sending my little girl to the Rainbow Bridge. :(

I'd say see what the vet has to say first and if the meds he prescribes work.

Nothing is harder on our hearts than an aging , healthy dog. we never know when to let go. My Golden, Bushwacker , was 17 when I had to put him down. I'd help him up and walk him with a towel slung under his belly on bad days. He loved to go with me in the car to feed the horses. I promised him that when that joy was gone , I'd send him on. One morning when the other dogs we're ready for our morning trip, Bush stayed laying down and just wagged his tail. I knew the time had come.
