I just rescued a gorgeous dog from an NYC shelter ten days ago, and no one seems to know what sort of breeds she is. She has very soft, thick fur like a northern breed and a sweet-but-aloof disposition (very much like a cat, actually). The shelter told me that she's likely a spaniel. I don't much mind not knowing her background, but I wouldn't mind seeing what people guess!

Aw, she's a beautiful mix, what ever it may be. Congratulation on adopting her! I'm horrible at guessing mixes, and she may be mixed with more then just 2 dogs. She has such gentle looking eyes, doesn't she?!

Yeah, I've been thinking that she's a Golden/Cocker. But the women at the shelter didn't think she had any Golden ("Her fur is too thick and her stance is too wide!"), so I wanted to check out other peoples' ideas.

the thick fur is probably from the cocker side (if that's what she is). the stance could be a whole other breed we don't know about. LOL

I''m thinking Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel/Brittany Spaniel

And there's almost a Terrier-tilt to those ears . . .

I think she's lovely and I'm so glad you've brought her home :)

Looks like she is a Sheltie/Spaniel mix.

I hadn't considered that she was part Sheltie! I looked up pictures, and you're right: Her eyes have definite, definite Sheltie markings. Mystery partly solved! Thanks so much.
