My terrier mix has recently become infatuated with a wicker dog bed. He mounts it every chance he gets. He does not attempt this with people, or our other dog (who is the alpha), but it is rather embarassing when he does it in front of company. He is neutered and has been for many years. When we catch him at it, all we have to do is say "ut" firmly and he slinks off, but as soon as our backs are turned he is right back at it. He knows he is naughty and that he is displeasing us, but he refuses to stop. The bed belongs to our beagle and she can be laying in it and he will still jump on it to hump. What steps should I take to get him over this?

Could you not keep him so that he can't get to the bed for a while?

We have tried putting the bed on the table, so he can not get to it, but he sits there staring at it the entire time and whining. It is actually as if he thinks this bed another dog that he has fallen in love with! I can't imagine that he is actually trying to dominate wicker, although he is a rather strange little beast.

I'd leave it alone. He seems to enjoy going through the motions :)... better the wicker than your other dog or your leg :) I hear more and more about these Nympho dogs......lol

Something tells me he's trying to assert himself over your Beagle or he's got some doggy-issue on his mind that he and the Beagle need to work out between them. Maybe a bit of jealousy recently?
