Its 4:06 in the morning, so excuse me if I dont make any sense.
I took Peanut to the vets yesterday and it turns out she has a UTI, just as I suspected. She has blood in her urine and the infection is making it hard for her to control her bladder. The vet gave her some anti-biotics and I got her updated on her rabies vacc. while we were there. All in all, Peanut is doing alright. I think Im going to change her vet however, I get a bad vibe from the guy. Peanut is terrified of him and he has the dryest personality ever. I had him cut her nails and he clipped one too short and her toe started bleeding and she was yelping and trembling-like she was in pain. I think I got a bit over charged too, tell me what you think-
Examination-$47
Rabies shot-$26
medicine-$42
nail clipping-$14
Urinalysis-$40
the total came to like $169, and we were only there for about 15 minutes.

Glad to know that you took her to see the vet :)
Hope she is feeling better soon.
As for the price, that sounds about right for what i would pay here in the UK.
Although we don't need Rabies shots, but that would be around the same for everything else.
I'm so glad she's doing better, as for the price well I couldn't say, my vet bills are never cheap whenever we take a visit. Last year it cost sooo much for treatment for my rabbit, he only had one injection. I'm happy to pay it of course but vet bills always seem to be expensive.

Glad you found the cause for poor Peanut.
The price does sound about right though, each time I take Riot into the vets I end up playing around $130 no matter what lmao.
But.. on the other hand, if Peanut is scared of him, I'd switch anyways. There is one vet at the vet clinic that Riot really doesn't like and honestly, I'm not too thrilled about him either, he doesn't seem to trust his work because hes always looking at ways of doing biopsys or blood samples.. anything that involves maiming Riot - a show dog!!
The female vet there is much better in my eyes, Riot loves her and shes so gentle with him and would only consider maiming/fixing him if need be lol

Hopefully Peanut will feel better soon. Give her a hug from me and the monsters.
I would change your vet if you and Peanuts are not comfortable with him.
The vet bill seems normal, but I have never seen a cheap vet bill. lol

The price is right in line with what I pay too.
I also agree with everyone in regards to changing Riot's vet. Even though most dogs don't like going to the vet, they have a great ability to "read" people.
I would definately look for a kind, gentle, caring Doc. I've been really fortunate to have found a few.

Sorry I mean Peanut, not Riot.
I hope Salty Dog feels back to her normal demon self soon and that you find a different vet! The prices do sound about normal though; painful isn't it?
I'd agree with the prices being normal but follow your instincts about the vet! Glad you've found the cause and hope she's 100% soon

Thanks everyone, she seems to be doing better this morning. And I'm totally going to change her vet.

**** straight. That was a majority of my first paycheck.lol. But hey, I'm happy to pay it if it helps Peanut.

Glad you know what was wrong and it's getting taken care of. She sure was trying her best to tell you herself, wasn't she? Smart little grrrrrl :)
Changing vets would be a good idea all around . . . I mean, it would get really expensive for me to have to bring Peanut's giant Grrrrrlfriends up to straighten him out ;)

Good God, NY is a rip off! eek: *j/k*
A vet exam here is $25, rabies shot is $5 or $10 and nail clippings (I think) are $8ish. Meds and urinalysis vary, so I can't comment on those two. IMO you were seriously overcharged for the exam and rabies shot, at least.
I agree vet bills get expensive. For 2 sets of vaccinations, 2 rabies shots, 1 vet exam fee, Mitoban (i think) for Georgia, and a skin scrape (for Georgia) was only $100.
To get 1 set of puppy shots (gunner), ear infection meds (tira), anal gland exretion (tira) and 1 exam fee cost $90.
And that's inexpensive compared to other places. I guess it all depends on where you live.
I hope Peanut feels better soon!:D

Most vet's offices have "rabies clinics" that you can go to and get their shots for about 20 bucks but if you go in during an appointment it's more.
Everything looks to be about right, my exam. fee is $39.
But you paid $14 to get her nails clipped?!?!?! Learn to do it yourself, I was always told that a dog with black nails is very trick to trim, but I've been doing it myself for over 2 years and it's not hard at all.
No one report me for this but this is a diagram my trainer gave me, it really helps!

That about says it. Black claws aren't that bad to do. Do it right once and it gets easier after that.

The thing about the nail cutting that gets me is my fear of cutting too short and Peanut resenting me for it. Ill try once, and see how it goes.

Just clip a little at a time and follow the diagram the vet gave you.

The charges are pretty much in line with what I pay. My vet charges $40 for examination. I always have their nails clipped by the groomer when they go for that. But I do agree with switching vets if you & Peanut aren't comfortable.
If you are worried about clipping her nails too short you might want to try using a Dremel. It may take some time for you to get her used to it but they work great especially with black nails because it is so gradual.
