Mason; Play nicely

So Mason isn't fond of all the dogs he encounters. I dont know if he wasn't socialized well or what as a pup. A dog or two have come up to smell him and after a bit; he starts getting upset. He'll scrunch his nose and growl with an occasional bark. Anyway; what kind of training should I do in this regard?

Should I try and train him to always be nice? Should I simply understand he's not going to like all dogs and that's okay? Obviously I Dont want him getting in physical altercations but I don't know where to draw the line.

I am no good with giving advice on training.
I do believe though that dogs will like some dogs and dislike others (Just like us humans).
Also are they sniffing him in a certain place when his mood changes? IE:His butt, or getting too close to his face.
It could be that he doesn't like where they are sniffing him.
I know that Bailey is ok with females sniffing his butt, but he won't allow male dogs to go near there.
I am sure that someone will have more advice to give than i have :)
