Yesterday I was at a graduation party and Missy was with me (her name was on the invitation first! lol) Next door people were moving in, and they had a beautiful Weimaraner

The owner came next door to see Missy, who she thought was beautiful. She commented on her coat and asked me what I fed. Once I said Innova EVO, you couldn't seperate us... we were talking non-stop dogs.
She asked me if me or Missy minded if she let "Zach" off of the leash. I said no, and asked if anyone minding if I let Missy off the leash.
They played, and I have to say I am absolutly in love with that breed. The looks at least.

I heard they can be dog aggressive, nervous, neurotic, or hyper ???
Anyone have any experiance with good/bad temperment?
I am not a fan of this breed. I have met one, maybe two, Weims that were not neurotic, nervous, randomly aggressive (both to people and dogs--I had one that would not stop launching himself at the door to his room when I walked past it yesterday) and clingy in a way that would make a Doberman blush. They are very pretty, and I'm sure that in the hands of someone who knew what they were doign they're great dogs, but I have seen very few examples. They're pretty popular around here and I can't quite figure out why beyond the draw of their looks.

To be honest I have only personally ever been in contact with one. A female, Cali about 10 months old. NOt only was she grogeous, but she was extemely quiet and well behaved. (the owner was a very soft spoken person). Maybe she was an exception but all around she was a very pleasant, soft (lol) dog to be around.:)

My sister-in-law has one and from what i know of her (don't see them that often) she is a great loving dog.
Only she chews anything in sight, so has to be crated when they are out and at Bedtime.
I've been in contact with 2.
The first was my Grandma and Grandads dog, Flash. He lived to be 14yrs and sadly dies a few years back. Growing up I was never allowed my own dog (I got Casey when I was 10) but I considered Flash as being mine. He was such an amazing dog, it took a while for him to mature but he was so kind and gentle with me. I've got some gorgeous shots of me standing between his legs.
The second is my dads friend dog. She is sooooooo hyper it's unbelievable, whenever I go there she just jumps up at me constantly and I get scratches all over me.
Overall I've met and lived with one amazing weimaraner and the other one was too hyper.
My dad's family always, always had Weims. They loved them - they were drivey and protective yet social and fairly quick to learn. They apparently weren't the world's most obedient dogs but they came when they were called and were housetrained. According to my dad, that's all a good dog needs to do. LOL.
From what I've heard from my dad, they were very nice dogs. I still have old photos of his only male Weim, Schatz. Gosh that dog was beautiful.
My grandpa's very last Weim, Katelyn, died when I was about 6 but I remember her quite well. She was absolutely insane. I have videos of her and she looks like one of the birdiest dogs I've ever seen, but she was OCD about balls, sticks, rocks.. She'd drop a grain of sand in front of you and scream bloody murder if you didn't find it and throw it. I had fun with Kate, because I would throw a ball as long as I had a dog to retrieve it. Indoors, Kate never settled down, she rarely held still long enough for people to pet her. She slept only when everyone else was sleeping and as soon as someone stirred, she'd be up and at 'em again. Pure energy.
I want a Weim someday, I just hope I don't get one like Kate. lol.
From what I have noticed/experienced, Weims are puppies for a LONG time. I know a 4 year old Weim who is just now beginning to mature. He's a very good natured dog, he's simply still a pup at heart.

Sadly I haven't been able to meet a Weim, but I saw a young one a week or so ago. He was really bouncy and of course absolutely gorgeous. Love those dogs!

So, do you think one needs to be very selective when choosing a breeder, or do you think it is more owner related??
There's seems to be quite a few in rescues (they're kind of rare around here too). The only other weim I met (besides the one in my first post) was a RUNNER and skittish, wouldn't come for anything. They had to toss a noose over his head to catch her. Wouldn't even come to me for hamburger :(

I'd be just as selective with a Weim breeder as I would a GSD breeder!
They're great dogs but like a working line GSD need total commitment. :D
This website has a "About the breed" page that describes my friend's Weim to a T!
