Well, we've had Tink almost 4weeks,and she's doing well with housebreaking, but here's my question... I feed her, take her out on a schedule, and that works pretty well- on awful rainy days, like today,(again) she doesn't want to go out(who does?) and thus we have a few accidents... when I catch her in the process, I say aah-ahh! and take her out right away, the whole deal-
the question, is this enough to get her understand, not only that going outside is a good thing, but that going inside is a bad thing? Like,is this how she gets it,with time, putting it all together? My dh wonders how she learns that inside=bad if she doesn't go inside, except on rare occasions...not looking for opportunites to punish, just wondering...

We bought Wrigley a rain jacket--silly I know but he hates the rain! Seems to help--he will pee really fast but will hold his poop until it is not raining any more LOL! You need to catch them in the act to do any discipline. Generally if we catch him in the act we pick him up by the scruff and yell NO BAD WRIGLEY--if you catch him after the act though it's too late!

You can't teach a dog that elimination is bad. It's NOT bad. It feels good. That's why we call it RELIEVING OURSELVES.
What you must teach the dog is that OUTSIDE is where this must be done.
Puppies have accidents, that's to be expected.
The best thing to do is go OUTSIDE with the puppy EVERY SINGLE TIME, and food reward ALL outdoor elimination.
Also pay close attention to how often she needs to go out so that you can anticipate her needs.
This puppy is VERY young, try not to put too much pressure on her. Most puppies are well housetrained by 6 months.

Thanks for the advice, I have a raincoat for her,and a sweater...it's just cold and wet,the grass reaches her shoulders....
I know shes young, just making sure i was doing all I could for now...just have to be patient....
Can you put up a little shelter for her? Even just a tarp until she gets braver?

A shelter is a good idea, and a small area where you keep the grass clipped very short.
