Snopes indicates this legend is true. The eating of St Bernards specifically because people think there meat is better than other dogs meat, just sick!

that's just disgusting.
i know every country has it's own customs...but i don't think eating family pets should be one of them. stick with beef, poultry, pork and some other off the wall meats (as well as fresh/salt water fish) but GOD PLEASE leave the cats/dogs/small rodents (i.e. hamsters) and "pet" animals alone.

I've known about this for a while :( makes me sick. In Korea (and China), dogs and cats are skinned alive for food...it disgusts and angers me.

This sounds like what that puppy miller (from the other thread) would do if people stopped buying his dogs. Eating dogs is very sickening to me. Never mind that they are companions, what about health regulations? I'm sure these countries don't have any/many regulations for dog meat.

I"ve eaten guinea pig before and it was actually quite tasty. I was in S. America for a while and they grow them a little bigger than the ones we think of as pets here, but they eat a lot of it, and it is pretty good. as for dogs, I could never bring myself to eat dog meat, I have too many friends that were dogs to ever eat them, unless of course i was in a plane crash in the andes mountains as a part of soccer team, then maybe I could.

Yes we find it vile, however, people in india think we are all going to hell for eating cow.
I'm not at all saying it's ok and that it doesn't sicken me, but it's just our culture that teaches us to feel that way. I know people who keep chickens and pigs as pets also.

it's just all around funky how we can say it's wrong/nasty/etc cause here they are pets/family members....over there they are meals and appetizers. in India (as previously mentioned) cows are sacred...and over here they are meals. why must there be such a diversified idea as to what should/shouldn't be done with animals? it would be nice if we could all agree or meet in the middle at least.

I don't get why people can say "OMG they eat dog! What the F is wrong with them?!?!" then go out and have a hamburger, hot dog, or chicken. lol :p

eating a dog to me is like eating a cow a pig, (i dont eat them cause i dont eat red meat) people do the same things to them, what descusts me is the fact they belive that the more the animal suffers the better it tastes. i cant belive that they dont feel something for killing them, ive read all about it, they boil animals alive, stuff them in bags and hit them against walls so there bones get broken and crushed. in over contrys they have bear farms were the bears live in missrey for there who lives, 95% of chickens live in battary pens, and animals are tormented, perposly made blind, injected with poison, cut open in testing labs and the people who try to save these animals lives are concidered mad. people around the world are sick and cruel and i wish i could stop it )-:

I think it is sad that some people eat dogs and cats, but there is not much difference in americans eating cows and pigs. Pigs are smarter than most dogs and no doubt know exactly what is going on when they reach the slaughter house. My problem is the way in which the cats and dogs are killed. It is simply cruel and inhumane to make them suffer like that. If they are going to be killed, get it over with. I hate that they draw the process out as long as possible :(
