Hi there,
I am in the process of finding my 4 year old Springer Spaniel a new home. She has been with me since she was 10 weeks old and has been my constant companion...I am a stay-at-home mom. There is a couple interrested in her, and seem like they would make very good owners, but my main concern is that they both work during the day...so she would be alone for about 9 hours a day! That's alot for her...although she sleeps most of the day anyway! Will this be too traumatic for her...or do you think she will adjust to this change!?

Any input would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks

Welcome to the boards!

Is she crate trained? If she is, how long can she go in it for? Does she ever show signs of separation anxiety when you leave?

No dog should be left alone 9 hours straight IMO, but if someone could come in the middle of the day to feed him and let him out or they could come at lunch break that would work great. She just needs to be crate trained.

They should have someone to come and walk the dog during the day, play with it a bit, let it go potty, and so on. If they can come home for lunch and do it that would be even better. Have you asked about that?

Looks like we were posting at the same time Mary-Kate!

I think they'll be fine. I have four dogs and have had dogs all my life and they are usually home alone all day. Most people wouldn't have dogs if they oculdn't hold it that long. It may take some adjustment for her but I'm sure she'll be fine:)

I would personally look for someone who is home more during the day.

Although, I dont think people who are gone all day should not have pets... I think that this dog is going to have a hard enough time adjusting to a new home at 4 years old and should have people around here more.

I'm inclined to think that if she's used to you being home with her during the day, that the ideal thing would be to find somone who's home during the day with her. Why do you have to part with her....just curious?:)
