Interesting !! Keep us up to date. I'm sure you've told new owners not to breed.

Yes, all the puppies that went out to friends have got to be altered if not shown, AND since they are probably carriers, finding another dog to breed WITHOUT the gene is impossible to prove.
BOTH parents HAVE got to have the gene in order to pass it on.IT IS a recessive gene, so if a mate does not have the gene, it will not be passed. HOWEVER, in most cases, the mutant gene shows up from 4 to 8 years old, typically AFTER the dog has been bred. Daizys case is very unusual, for it to show so early.
There is no test for this gene as of yet. Its a wait and see game.
But there are MANY breeds that have reported it. And there is even a registry that you are supossed to report to when it is discovered. Sadly, many mis diagnose and eithanize without reporting. There are many Universities wanting brain tissue from the dog as well as they are looking for a cure. Typically the dog will have to be euthinized by 11 months of age due to no more mobility what so ever. But those dogs show signs starting at about 4 to 6 months of age. Daizy has rapidly produced these signs, and sorry to say, is not going to make it that long. As I have noticed a slight deterioration in the last 2 days.
I have learned so much about this mutant gene. Dog breeders beware, even at the reporting rate, which is slow, all of our breeds will possess this gene in OUR lifetime, and there will eventually be NO safe breeding!

Kind scarey.

Sounds much like a problem we have found in labradors. CNM Central nervous myopathy. Both parents have to be a carrier to have pups effected with it. Now you can have one parent with CNM and one Clear and the pups could be fine.
This is a new diagnosis and still being tested so nothing is for sure on it yet.
