Hey all. My 10yr beagle has been vomiting today. She threw up several times this morning and had some runny stool according to the friend that was caring for her. No bad poo tonight, but she has vomited several more times and seems a little listless. I will be taking her to the vet first thing in the morning, but is there something I can do for her now? I know I am probally overreacting completly, but this is how my Cocker Spaniel started off one night and by the next night she was dead. So I am a little bit nervous. I have heard pepto bismol might be OK in small doses, but have heard other people say not to. Any suggestions?

Don't give any Pepto Bismol. My vet said that it usually doesn't really help much and can sometimes hurt. When your dog vomits, does "stuff" come out each time? If she throws up without any vomit coming out, in other words, dry heaves, then she could be suffering from bloat. If she's throwing up stuff each time, I'd just try to keep her as comfortable as possible and make sure she gets in to the vet tomorrow. Nothing else I can think of to do.

Hmmm I've used Pepto bismol with great success. My dog hates it but he generally stops throwing up after taking it. It helps to soothe the stomach in my opinion. Others may have a different opinion...

Maybe you should call the vet. She may be vomiting and having runny stools for a reason...
Just give your vet a call to ask what you should do.
Being a Beagle, he may have eaten something he wasn't supposed to and now his bellys upset.

Pepto helps my dogs with vomitting and the runs. They hate it, but it helps settle things down until I can get them to the vet.

Beagles definitely march to the beat of their own drum.

yeah, it may be something like riot said..
happened to oakley.,..and only our cleaning ladies were home...i felt so bad for poor oakley....in his crate vomiting and pooping EVERYWHERE...(and the poor cleaning ladies cleaned it up...omg, i felt so bad they felt the need to do that...i woulda done it had i been home!!)
we brought him to the vet, and they gave him some canned food (lol, oakley was very sad when it was gone, he LOVED the stuff!) and a much needed bath....
he was just fine by the next day...
HOw did your dog make out at the vets?
I would not give pepto or immodium type stuff to a dog who is vomiting and/or has diarhea. This can really 'plug' them up and make matters worse.
Also, depending on the breed, this stuff can literally kill some dogs.
My aussie has tested mutant/mutant for the MDR1 gene, (sensitivity gene), it can be common in shelties, collies, aussies and also some other herding breeds. M/M means she carries the gene, would pass it on to offspring and the most important, NORMAL doses of things like ace, bute, immodium(loperamide), anti cancer drugs, ivermectin and host of other "unknown" drugs, can literally KILL her.
Hope your dog is feeling better
