Major Teeth Problems

My chi/min pin mix is 8 months old. We adopted her from a shelter close to two months ago. The problem is that her baby teeth are not falling out, but her adult teeth are coming in. They look awful, all crooked and weird. I'm very concerned. The vet said this is not uncommon in small dogs and also that we should give it a couple of months and if it didn't work itself out, we would have to have them extracted. Has anyone been through this before?

one of the guys that I work with has a Pom. that had the same problem. They just waited until they fell out. He said that it looked very "Jaws" like with 8 canines.
