My dog, Mojo (mixed breed), has had a runny, stuffy nose for 2 weeks now, and he is sneezing. I have not taken him to the vet yet because he had the same thing last year around this same time, so i figured it was allergies, but I don't remember it lasting this long (or i would have taken him to the vet i think). The mucous that comes out of his nose when he sneezes seems to be white, but not clear(and VERY gross!). He is eating fine, and is still pretty playful. He hasn't been lethargic, and seems to be in good spirits(but i can tell that it is making him upset to not be able to breathe too well out of his nose). I will give it another day or two and watch him carefully, then call the vet. I the meantime, anyone have any helpful advice?

My dog has allergies in the spring too and I give her Benadryl...make sure you read the label and get the one that says...Allergy's and not the cold or flu brand that has Tylenol in it. The dosage goes by weight and my dog weighs approx. 85 lbs. and can have 1 or 2 of them 4 times a day...they are 50 mg each. You could try that and see if the runny nose stops...also watch and make sure there is no blood in the mucous....that is a sign of something way more serious and then you really need to go to vet. I notice my dog is getting relief from the Benadryl within a hour.

thank you so much for your reply...i took mojo to the vet yesterday, and he has a bacterial infection in his nose. nothing too severe, in fact he has only taken 2 antibiotics and he already seems better. so once we complete the antibiotics, i am sure he will be back to 100%. thanks again!
