What do you do for a ripped off toe nail? My good friends heeler ripped one of his rear ones completely off. How, I have NO idea. Any suggestions? I've never had that happen to a dog before so I'm a little dumb founded.

Oooooh!! *Cringes* I hate anything to do with nails! Gives me the shivers!!
Well I don't suppose that there is much you can do, as long as it has stopped/isn't bleeding, apart from putting some antiseptic spray on it. And keep an eye on it, try to keep it clean, and make sure that the new nail grows back through properly. I'm afraid i'm not an authority on claws!

My parents used to have 2 American Eskimo Dogs (Spitz) that would get there dew claws ripped from time to time. They would just put peroxide on it, let it dry, then wrap their paw up in guaze for a day or 2.
By the way, one of the Spitz lived to be 18, and the other, her puppy, lived to be 19. They must be a longer living breed that most....

I have lost a toenail or 5 after a couple of marathons. It is no big deal. They grow back. I am thinking this is the same for a dog.

Keep it cleaned. Let it heal.
It will be ouchy for a while, but nothing too severe.

Yeah, there's not really much you can do except keeping it clean (don't cover it up, it needs air) and giving it time to grow back. :(
