So we have decided to crate train Tucker. He is the first dog we have ever tried it with. I told my mom before we ever got a puppy that we should buy a crate but she insisted our tiny bathroom would be fine to put him in when we leave. Well not so! Even though he is doing great on housetraining he does have his accidents and tends to only have them when in the bathroom. He also tends to bark and howl and carry on and claw the pain off the door.

So finally I have convinced her that crate training is a really good way to go. I printed her our tons of crate training articles and tips for her to read (stuff I already knew) and she decided that its a good idea. So im stuck home today puppy sitting while my mom goes out crate hunting lol. She is also getting him his first kong to help keep him busy.

I also told her that we should stop him from eating and drinking about 4 hours before bed so he is less likely to have an accident in his crate.

So wish us luck!!!

I crate trained Charlie it works REALLY well. They will not use the bathroom where they sleep, and if you get them outdoors fast enough from the crate they learn very quickly! Charlie only had 4 accidents in his life time, and usually it was my fault because each time he did it right at the door while i was putting my shoes on, guess he couldn't hold it any longer lol.

It sounds like you're doing good! You've given your mom some good advice, and the proof to back it up. People often say that the hardest part about crate training is the noise if the puppy howls/whines/barks. Let your Mom know so there are no surprises and training stays consistant.

So, Good Luck! :D
