Holds it fine in crate for hours, but 30 min. out of crate

Okay, this is a little frustrating. Our new 4 month old weimaraner is presenting me with an odd problem. He can hold it for quite a while (all night long and up to 4 hours in the day) when he is in his crate, but I try to let him out to play after he does his business outside. I watch him very closely while he's out of the crate, but sometimes he's just too quick. He will only last about 20-30 minutes outside of the crate.

Everything I've read says to let them play a little after they do their thing, so I try to. He whines incessantly in the crate even though he goes in of his own accord, so I try to let him out to play after every potty trip. He either pees inside or I catch him right before almost [B]every[B] time I let him play inside. How do I fix this?:confused:

Other issue, when he is in his crate he whines nonstop as I mentioned already. I never force him in there, give him treats on the rare occasions he is quiet for any period of time, and keep my kids and other dog away from the crate while he's in there so they don't torture the poor thing. Is there a fix for this?

I'd keep him on a leash while you have him outside the crate but in the house. It's easier to keep an eye on him.
