Got our new puppy yesterday, a Cavaliar King Charles.
We have puppy proofed the kitchen but there is no heater in there. Will it be too cold for him in there. Should say we are in the UK and our temperatures do not go much below freezing outside at the coldest.
Also his poo - he has a main one and then one thats a little watery. We also noticed a little blood this morning. Any thoughts?

As for cold it depends on how old he is and what he is used to, as for his poo again age, what is he eating and has he had his vaccinations and worming?

I would get him into the vet about his poo. Anytime there is blood visible, it can be very serious. What are you feeding him?

Thanks for your replies. Was due in at the vets today anyway for a check over. Vet has prescribed him some medicine for his watery poo and we are to check for any further signs of blood (which so far there have been none). Discovered a slight heart mumur which she believes will go with development of the heart and a hernia where the cord was cut which we will keep an eye on!
On the good side he is a lovely little puppy, full of life and fun and happy to head to the newspaper for relief!
Vet was happy that we left him in the kitchen so long as he has a warm comfy bed (which he has). Suggested leaving a light towel he can snuggle under. Borrowed a heater just to add a little extra warmth which we will switch off and ensure is out of reach before we go to bed.

We are feeding him dried food provided by the breeder which we soften with a little warm water. Feeding him 3 times a day. Appetite looks good!

You may also want to add a t-shirt of yours (preferably already worn recently) so he can sleep with your scent around him. May help with the transition while you're not around.
He sounds so sweet, do you have any pictures?

We had to take Chester back to the vet as he had stopped eating and drinking and although his poo was more solid there was still a little blood.
They have kept him in and we are devastated. Waiting for some news at 4.00pm.

He came home at 4.00pm having had a couple of good feeds and plenty of water. Vet has given us some different food and antibiotics. Since getting home he has been full of beans and ate his food. So we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Spoke to the breeder who explained that it is not uncommon for puppies to feel a little stressed as they adapt to their new surroundings and the symptons of this are often watery poo and losing thier appetite.
Will let you know how things go.

But,did you tell your breeder about the heart murmur? That would upset me.

Yeah, definately tell your breeder about the heart murmur. Heart problems are common in CKC's. Did you get a health warrenty with this breeder that covers heart problems if this should turn into something?

Back to vets for first innoculation.
Vet confirmed heart mumur now hardly detectable so believes it is due to normal development.

Glad everything worked out with your pup...we had a stage 3-4 heart murmur that corrected itself after about 2 months. We were worried sick, and in contact with the breeder the whole time.

I had a pup once that had a heart problem... a vet was taking one of my pups and took the sick one too ( given to him )... She had the best of care ( he taught at Purdue Vet school ) but only lived a little over a year. Bless him for taking her.
