Hello just to say hello to you all, I live in London and have two working cockers - Ralph who is 9 years old and Archie who is just 4 months. Ralph unfortunately may have Cushings we are awaiting further tests - he seems happy enough and apart from looking rather chubby doesn't seem any different. Archie is a fit, happy pup and adores his Uncle Ralph (same blood line) Uncle Ralph however has a different view of this young annoying little brat who has come to spoil his wonderful life!!! I look forward to reading all the topics on here.

Hi, welcome to Chazhound! :)
I hope Ralph's test results are good, and hopefully he doesn't have Cushing's Disease. My older dog (who is 10 years old) has hypothyroidism - he used look very boxy and lost some of his fur in patches. Luckily it's manageable but he has to be on tablets for the rest of his life. I don't know too much about Cushings... is it treatable?
I hope you enjoy being a member here!

Hi, Yes apparently Cushings is treatable, he has to have more blood tests. He has become very "boxy" as you say, they tested for thyroid first, he hasn't lost any hair that I can see yet! He has gone from a fit trim dog to a portly chap!!

Ah, well it's lucky that it's treatable.. even though it'd be better if your dog didn't have it. The vets didn't know what was wrong with Harley and it took them more than a year to work out. He is 100% better since he's been on the tablets. Before that he was like a grumpy, fat, old man! :D He is back to his old self (still grumpy) but has so much more energy. Before he couldn't even make it up the stairs.
It's sad seeing your dog change so drastically - you know something is wrong but you just don't know what.
