hiya well i survived my first week as a new mum and think both me and saphy are doing great. i have been giving her a treat every time she eliminates on the training mats and not on the carpet, also when she goes outside. thing is not sure if she has cought on to this or if there may be a problem because she will go every couple of minutes and do spots on the mat, she does have a few accidents on the carpet but not often. should i carry on with this style of praise also should i mention the spotting to the vet??
thanks helena

It never hurts to consult a veterinarian. Make sure there is no urinary infection. Beyond that, start phasing out the treats and replacing it with verbal praise and excitement. I would have your pup start eliminating outside full time as soon as possible to avoid the pup thinking it's ok to go in the house. Good luck!

Are you planning on her using pads for the rest of her life? If not, it may be better to just not use them. It might be easier if she realizes that she can't pee inside AT ALL, only outside. You can also teach her to go on command if you want to (LOL I know it sounds goofy, but it might come in handy sometime), by saying "Go pee" when she starts going in the appropriate place, and then giving her treats and praise.

thanks for the advice. i only started doing it to get her not to wee on carpet. i didnt know that they were allowed to go outside straigt away. i take her outside on the garden as much as possible she is only 8 weeks old so i am not expecting her to be house trained just yet. lol i have started caging her at night and when we go out whch is not often and dont want to do too much too soon, or am i being to over protective lol.
