How do I train Coop stay?

and...
Coop does his tricks with my hand motions and does not listen to my voice. I think it would be cooler if I could say spin without making any hand motion. :DHow would I do that?

Thanks...

For the stay:

Put Coop into a sit at your side like he was heeling. Then put your hand in front of eyes and say "Stay." Move so that you are directly infront of him, hold for a second and then move back to "heel" and praise him. Repeat that distance two or three more times. Next, move back two steps from him and sort of dance a step to either side, not enough to excite him to play, but so that he gets used to you moving and it's something for him to watch. Repeat, repeat, repeat, gradually moving out to the end of your leash. Continue to 'dance' around him, even walking behind him. Don't let him move from the spot you put him in a sit at. If he does, put him right back there, praise for the sit and go back to moving out a couple steps, pausing and then praising when you are back in 'heel.'

Never call him from a stay. Stay should mean "don't move a muscle until I come back to get you." If you think you are going to want him to come to you, use "wait" instead.

Keep practicing the tricks, using both hand and voice. Word association will eventually kick in and you can stop using hand motions so much. It's like treats: you use them a lot in the beginning, then gradually phase them out.
