I work for a gastroenterologist, so may be seeing things where they don't exist, but I am reasonably convinced that Ruby may have gastroesophageal reflux disease. She burps continually, coughs reasonably regularly, and pants an awful lot regardless of exercise.

The vet has already tested her for heart disease and given her the all-clear, as we have been worried about her panting especially for some time, but now I wonder about reflux?

I could not find anything on it anywhere using internet searches, and I wondered if anyone here has any advice? She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, but she has a few atypical symptoms that I would like to investigate if there is actually such a thing as acid reflux in dogs.

My dog did this. I thought the exact same thing, and it could be. But, after some great advice from people here, I changed her dog food. I switched her food and started feeding her 3 small meals a day and it stopped completely.

I initially gradually switched her to Science Diet before Mordy set me straight, but honestly, it worked. She is now on Innova Evo and doing even better. She only poops twice a day. She doesn't burp or vomit bile anymore.

Mine had a few particularly bad spells where she was vomiting and burping a lot. I treated her with pepto bismol and pedialyte on advice from my vet.

That's good advice. The daughter of the lady I work with is a vet, and happened to do a full research project on reflux in dogs, amazingly. I found this out after I'd posted here! She also suggested the same thing - three small meals instead of two larger ones, and elevating her food, and separating the pups at meal times so she doesn't feel like she has to gulp it down to finish it before Chester sticks his face in. So I'll do all of this, and I'll have a look at changing her diet, too, if those changes don't work on their own.
