Hi
At four months old, my puppy that is called rosie can..
Sit
Lay
Shake Hands
roll over
come
What should I teach it next?.
Also, after a week I have managed to make it stay before getting it's meal. For example, leave his dish on the floor and top it up. While putting new food in there the pup sits and watches. I then stand up and say "go" and she'll go and eat it. That took alot of time to do, but I think Rosie has mastered that one :-)
Thanks
James

"Speak" is cute, and "quiet" is useful. Most tricks are based on stuff your dog tends to do. ex: if Rosie paws a lot, 'shake hands' is easy to teach. I can't get my current dog to sit up because she's just not built that way - she's got a skinny rear. She can waltz naturally, though. You could teach her "Find" - leave her in one room, hide a treat in another and encourage her to search for it. At first, leave it pretty obvious so she gets the idea.

You've done wonderfully with your pup! Wow! "Leave it" is a great command to learn, comes in handy for lots of things. You can put some toys or other enticing objects around the yard or in your livingroom and walk past with your pup on a leash. When he goes for one of these objects, keep walking and say, "leave it." When he loses interest and comes along nicely with you, praise and give him a very special treat. Do this for about 5 minutes once or twice a day. If he's not on a leash and you want to tell him, "leave it" when he is getting into a no no, tell him, but make sure you get him away from the thing. Distract him and then when he does leave it, be sure to praise him a lot. Keep giving treats to make it really worth his while....for a long time, till he gets it down pat.
Another fun trick is bow. When you see your dog stretch the way they do with their rears up in the air, praise at that very moment when he's in that position. After a while, add the command word, "bow." Do this for a long time, just whenever you see him stretch. Then start luring him with a treat while saying, "bow." Hold the treat close to and in front of him and bend down with the treat to the floor. He's going to tend to want to lie down when you do this. That's why I like to give them a head start with the praising when they're stretching. It kind of gets the idea going.

Down/stay and sit/stay are very useful, leave it is also great and speak (this is great because if someone were coming to attack you or something you could signal your dog to bark, which may scare off your attacker).
