Brutus has started jumping on the window to let us know he wants in. He has ripped the screen, and is basically clawing at the window. Hubby is threatening to buy a shock collar to make him stop. What can I do to stop him from doing this?

I'm no training help, but maybe cover the bottom of the window for a bit...to protect your window, and get him out of the habit. I guess he's seeing you thru the window? I'm sure someone will help soon. :)

Maybe you can teach him to ring a set of loud bells hanging by the door?

Yup I've got Boone trained to use bells! They are great and you can hear them from anywhere in the house. http://www.poochie-pets.net/

That could work or a nose height door bell.I also would cover the window with something to protect it and him.Windows are expensive to replace.

There are inexpensive heavyweight lattice metal panels at Home Depot. While you are doing other stuff to change behaviors, hubby can cut one of these to size and save the window screen.

I think we are going to try Renee's advice and go with the bells. Hopefully he won't decide they are a new toy. lol Actually if he can see us thru the window he wont jump. Only if we are in another room.

LOL..shows you just how smart he is....when you're in the room, he KNOWS you're not gonna approve. guess if you're not there, he figures he has to go about getting your attention. I could just see mine with the bells......if they ever learned to use them, they'd have fun with me!!

Don't let him in when he does that. Go out with him before he jumps on the glass and when it's time for him to come in or he wants to come in, have him sit....show him the bells which will have a dab of peanut butter on them. When he licks and the bells ring, immediately open the door. Prevent him from jumping up by going out there and physically keeping him from doing it and show him what he can do instead which will be rewarding. (opening the door for him to come in is his reward, plus you can give him a treat too) Be consistant and don't let him continue that jumping up and don't let him in if he does. He should, within a couple of weeks figure out what gets him the reward of coming in and getting a treat and what behavior does not give him a reward. Believe me...he'll choose what behavior gets him the goodies.

Thanks for your help. I will see if I can find some bells today, maybe the christmas clearance section will have them.

Let us know how he learns, will you? Best of luck!
