Pimple Like Spots

My red-nose pitbull pup (she just turned 1 in November) has got these pimple like sores on her.. on her sides & a couple on her neck... they don't itch.. they don't even bother her... but her hair is raised up because of them... like you can see them just by looking at her. I noticed they doubled when I used a new shampoo someone had got her for Christmas... after about 2 weeks.. they went away... but now they are back (and I did throw the shampoo away) Like I said.. they don't bother her at all, but I know it's not normal... does anyone know what this may be? Oh.. and when she was about 14 weeks... she had a skin test and it turned out she had dimadex (sp?).. they started her on antibiotics...and everythings been fine since then. I am wondering if maybe it's another type of mange (since the vet said she got it from the mother... maybe this she did too) Somebody, please help my Bambina! :)

Or it could be plain ole puppy zits. Brutus has one right now. They actually can get acne.

Make sure you only feed and water her from stainless steel bowls. This might help. You can wash them in the diswasher and they will not harbor the germs plastic bowls will.

There are just too many to be pimples.. it is something more... anyone have any suggestions?

Any chance the demodex is back? It can be recurrent since it is a parasite and fairly common in nature, especially if it was in the environment. How about her ear edges, and feet. Any hair loss? I think I would have a scrapping done again.

There's no hair loss-- but I think you are right... I should get a skin scraping... When I bought her she had demedex & she was treated for it... so I don't think it would be in her environment.. and the demedex didn't look like this... she actually had some balding spots.. this is not balding.. it's just red raised spots on her sides & on her chest... it doesn't effect her at all.. but it doesn't look normal. And plus, she's my baby... I want her to be ok. :(

She may have an allergy. Brutus was alergic to something earlier this year our by our pond. They were little red raised bumps. At first, I thought they were fire ant bites. But, the vet gave me some medicine and it cleared up overnight. They were mostly on his tummy and underarm areas.

If she was diagnosed with demodex, you can be fairly sure it's back.

I have a dog with chronic generalized demodex and we are always working to control the symptoms.

I've got a blog going about our latest adventure. There's a product available now that helps her system release healthy adult stem cells. Hopefully, these will help her body boost her immune system.

If I see improvement in her, I'll be shouting from the roof-tops. This stuff is a natural non-toxic botanical that I can put onto a piece of cheese for her.

Still no luck... The vet asked for me to wait for the spots to come back... because he did a skin test & there is no sign of demodex... he doesn't feel the way I describe it is a form of demedex.. but he's not really sure what it could be either... of course her spots are gone right now (which is good) but I wish I could have known what it was.

If it isn't Demodex try using betadine to scrub any breakouts. It often helps a lot. If you use neosporin or anything it might help but it will also cause a little hair loss (ointments do). Is it worse where she has light coat or does it matter?

When do the breakouts happen, is she excited, is she around new detergents, in heat, getting table food, had a change in diet? If a breakout occurs, try to get to the vet when it happens, so he/she can see it and have a better chance of diagnosing it. Benadryl can actually be given to dogs, it's 1mg to 1lb. So most pills are 25mg, so that would be 1 pill for a 25lb dog, if it is an allergic reaction.

Demodex gets pretty nasty if it's not treated with dips and antibiotics. A lot of times they have to also wear a preventic collar to help.

I also have a red nose pitbull. Kaine developed spots like you described and they would get worse when we walked him at the park. His allergies started at late summer and after the first frost, they went away. He hasnt had any since then. We will have to see what happens this summer.

We gave him benedryl and would hose him off after getting back from our walks. It really seemed to help.

Alot of people with reds have this problem. We figured his was environmental and the iodine shampoos and a green tea shampoo seemed to help also.

Naw.. it doesn't matter where the spots are... it's mainly on her sides... that's about it though... her spots.. are pretty much gone.. she has 1 or 2 that appeared the other day... but they've only made a scab... I will probably bring her to the vet again so the vet can see it first hand.. hopefully they can figure it out. My poor chicken little! (aka Bambina)
