As many of you know we have been working on some personal protection training with Yukon.

My husband and I had a long talk about this yesterday and we have decided that the temperment changes in Yukon is not working for us or him. He is alittle too strong willed, and aggressive to pursue this type of training. Also his prey drive is so extremely strong he looks for a reason to run someone down and attack. Also with his shoulder injury he cannot maintain a consitant level of training. It is on again off again. He is not able to train for this type of activity this way and that is not his fault.

So our agreed upon decission concerning Yukon is to continue his obedience training, what is not high activity until he is 2 years old. At that time he is allowed to do anything exercise wise and I would like to pursue agility just for fun with him. I really think he would enjoy that and so would I. I do not want to compete or anything just have fun with him. After all that is what owning a dog is all about.

Just thought it would be good to update those of you who I have discussed his training with. Like Renee and Saje and GSDMom!

I think you've made a wise decision, Heather. Yukon's had a hard time starting out - I'm glad he's just going to get to have fun work to do, especially with his temperament. He's a dog who is very focused and tries so hard to please.

That's probably the best decision for him. Some dogs are just destined for other things than we plan. ;)

Yuck I know you were looking forward to this training with yukon. Maybe it is for the best this way, at least you can still train him. He is just a doll. Youve done a great job.

Really I wanted to do agility from the start with him. It was my hubby who wanted him to do personal protection and he is the one who has been pushing so hard with it too. He wants all gsd's to do something related to protection work because that was what they were bred too do. Wonder if he realises what they were to protect? Not us, they were bred to protect and herd flocks!

Thank you I do agree he is a doll!
