I just ran into these forums after doing some research on a few dogs online. It looks like this is a pretty active forum, so I thought I'd say hello to everyone... so; "Hello!"
Quick run down of myself and my wonderful dog Sable:
My folks used to breed/train GSD's, so I grew up with a lot of experience handling dogs. Ever since I've never lived a year of my life without having a dog. Sable is a dog that I found at the pound about 8 months ago. She was scheduled to be put down until a no-kill shelter found out about her and had her shipped over to them. She travelled almost 300 miles on the back of a truck with 5 of her litter mates. She was the youngest/smallest of the whole group and, unfortunately, the only one that survived the trip; every one of her litter mates died. When I arrived at the shelter she was about 3-4 months old and shivering in the corner, she had not been socialized with people. In fact, you would have to corner her just to get close to her. However, everytime I've rescued a dog it has been the one that nobody else would have taken. So the second I saw her I knew I had to have her!
Anyway, to make a long story short, I adopted her and 8 months later (after a LOT of hard work and positive encouragement) she is probably one of the most social dogs I've owned! She LOVES going to the dog park and playing with other dogs. She doesn't really care about other people until she gets to know them, but she's no longer afraid of them like she used to be. She's already become my favorite of a long history of animals that I've owned.
Sorry for writing a book! I just wanted to say hello and introduce my little bundle of happiness... so here's Sable, she's a GSD and Siberian mix:
