heres my boy ace... i picked him up at a private breeder.. he is now 1.3 years old!!!!

He's beautiful. But, I feel bad for all the other mixed breed dogs that missed a chance to be adopted because someone felt the need to bring more mutts into the world. Oh well. :(

very very handsome boy, I cant see any pit bull in there, too me he looks pure bullmastiff. and I agree, I feel terribly sorry for all the other homeless and unwanted mixed breeds out there that could have been adopted for nothing - next to nothing and been just as loving. but congratulations, hes beautiful.

he's only 1/4 bullmastiff??? are you sure? I dont mean to sound rude at all, not trying to call you a liar or anything...I just dont see any, ANY pit bull in him. how tall is he and what does he weigh? where did you get him, I mean does the breeder have a website? did you see both parents?
by the way...in the last/bottom pic he looks like hes missing a leg, but has them in the other pics. I assume thats just an illusion of the camera angle?

Love your dog Ace. He's very handsome. I think when the pit is mixed in to the mastiff breeds, it's not always obvious to see the pit in the dog. I just love Ace's face!

The boxy body seems like a pit, he is just to adorable though, but dont know why they would breed those breeds, that is a shame, but beautiful pup

not implying that this is how/where/why you got him or he was bred but I have heard of bullmastiff x pit, rottie x pit etc in disreputable breeders claiming they make far more aggressive guard dogs, and some claiming they make better fighting dogs.
just to point out, none of us know anything except that the original poster got the dog/puppy from a breeder. for all we know "breeder" could be a very generalized term in this case, referencing someone who simply owned a female and although its irresponsible they may have "accidentally" let her get pregnant.
the original poster didnt say how much the puppy cost or if it cost nothing.
even if the breeders purpose was to make money by selling these mixed breeds as better guard and/or fighting dogs...I get a strong impression that this owner (original poster) is a great owner.
sorry, just had to say that because some of the replies (mine and others) could be mistaken as looking down at you for getting a mixed breed from a breeder. hopefully we can avoid any comments that would be rude without mistaking their intentions.

Ace is like a Bandog. A Bandog is usually a pit mixed with another mastiff (i.e., pit/neopolitan, pit/english mastiff, pit/american bulldog) There are breeders of Bandogs which aren't recognized by AKC, etc., but have been breeding these dogs for many years. Some of these dogs are many generations deep and can be considered pure bred but not recognized by any organization. I would say most of these dogs are bred for personal protection and are very loving to their families.

I've never seen a pitbull in real life. They are illegal in the UK, unless you have some very special licence I think and are kept muzzled. Its because people breed them over hear with unstable temperments and so alot would be nice and suddenly they changed, turned arressive and there was nothing you could do.

Is it just me, but I found it odd that not all dogs in the pound and other such places aren't neutered before going to a new home. Isn't that just gonna create more problems than it solves? I mean, if I have a dog (actully I do own one) I'd get it neutred if I weren't going to use it for breeding.

You know what I notice here in Toronto? Alot of people on welfare and social assistance that can barely afford to pay their own rent go out and buy a dog or two..and then complain that they can't take care of it and end up abandoning it in front of a shelter or simply just not giving it the vet care it needs..I think the laws need to be stronger, and qualifications for ownership need to be more stern...I'm sorry, but if you can't afford it?

Do they think vet care and food are free?

ive owned a rednose pitbull once before.. ( passed away at an old age) and ive owned a purebred bullmastiff... they're loyal,loving and overall a great family dog. i didnt get him for personal protection. allthough he is very teritorial with strangers walking up to the back gate.. he dosnt bark at all... only when he wants a treat or something.. or maybe a get lost warning lol..

when i saw an ad.. pitbull x bullmastiff.. i went and visited the owner.. and the mother and father.. they were both such nice dogs.. im not really liking the rude comments... " you should of adopted.. blah blah" ive adopted before... and ive had some pretty bad past expericances with it. same has a few family members... every dog that ive known from the spca has bitten someone .. and i have children in this house.. my dog ace.. would never harm anyone.. hes extremely well temperd, and laid back. hes treated and spoiled like a baby!!!

so please... if you have something i dont want to hear.. then dont say it at all... i just came to this page to post my dog because he is a very hansome canine.

I'm glad you posted and know Ace is in a loving home. Ace has really turned into a handsome boy and what a cute pup he was. I'd love to see some more pics!

He is a great looking pup! However you got him, he is lucky to have a good home. Pits and Bullmastiffs are both great dogs so you are lucky just like him.


To the poster who said people cross BM and Pits to get better guard dogs....they (the breeder) must be really stupid people because Pits are terrible guard dogs, they like people to much. A purebred BM would have better instincts for guarding than a Pit/BM mix....IMHO. Really and truly the BMs I have met are not the best guard dogs because they are awful people friendly also.

One big advantage you might get from the cross is your boy might be healthier than the average BM because of the expand gene pool and pits are usually healthier than BMs. BMs I have met have lots of tumors and other health problems compared to other breeds....but man are they sweet.

My bullmastiff is a great guard! She is people friendly when she is not on our property, and I have to say 'okay' for her to relax when someone enters my house, but she is an awesome guard! That deep bark of hers scares people away fast :D lol

I think you might appreciate an explanation here. When you mentioned you'd bought a mix from a breeder, you ran up against this board's culture. While plenty of people here like pits and similar dogs, and their mixes, there's a strong belief that it's wrong to deliberately create mixed-breed dogs while there are so many dogs being killed in shelters for lack of homes.

You don't have to agree with this, but it is an attitude you'll come across repeatedly here.

I think you might appreciate an explanation here. When you mentioned you'd bought a mix from a breeder, you ran up against this board's culture. While plenty of people here like pits and similar dogs, and their mixes, there's a strong belief that it's wrong to deliberately create mixed-breed dogs while there are so many dogs being killed in shelters for lack of homes.

I have to disagree with part of this post. Yes, there are many dogs in shelters needing homes. Yes, many of those dogs are killed. But it is my experiance that some of the dogs are not killed for lack of homes, they are killed because the shelter workers or the shelter policy makes it impossible for the dogs to be adopted. Several years ago I tried to adopt an adorable Bassett Hound, but was denied because I already owned one dog. Less than a week after I applied for adoption, the dog was killed because the shelter couldn't find him a home. Adopting a dog is harder than adopting a child in many cases. No wonder people go elsewhere for puppies. Not that I am against adopting or rescuing...... My Buddy is a rescue...... but if a person is willing, financially able, and has a home suitable for the dog in question, why would some shelters deny the adoption and kill the dog?

By the way...... I think the pittie/bullmastiff mis pup is adorable! Better for him that he was bought by a loving, caring owner than sent to the pound or used for fighting or baiting. He looks like a well-loved part of the family.

Ace is the last pup in the top row, we paid $500 for Ace but he's actually priceless to us and just to let you know, we did our homework before we even decided to go and look at the pups and if you read under the "About Us" you'll learn more about the breeder. I admit i was very lerious to begin with because Ace's father is pure Am Staff but after meeting and spending a little time with Ace's Dad Ceasar and his Mom Kato i was convinced that if we raised this pup properly we would have a very good dog. I have owned many dogs in my day even breed Bichon Friese's for years and i will honestly say i have never owned such a well behaved, lovable, friendly dog as Ace in my life and i will never again speak poorly of the Am Staff bred....just the bad breeders and the bad owners. Ace is an extremly powerful dog and if this type of dog isn't raised properly then we are to blame, not the dog!
