But I would like to know anything you guys know bout chiwawas. I love knowing things about animals.

Please and Thankyou.

my sister in laws' sister breeds them. for the last 5 years she hasn't bred them, she has instead rescued unwanted chihuahuas. I know that the average chihuahua litter is only 1 puppy, sometimes 2-3 puppies but usually if they have that many one or more are smaller than normal. she says that teacup chihuahuas are actually the runt of the litter. she also quite often went 3-4 years without breeding because she wouldn't consider breeding, except thinking about it for fun (fun = thinking, not fun = breeding, just to be clear), unless she had 3 people on a waiting list. the reason she wouldnt breed untill she had atleast 3 people is because she would occasionally have 2 or 3 puppies in a litter, but always hoped for only one so all would be healthy.
she never had a problem with any of hers, or any of the pups she put into new homes, house breaking. supposedly they were all very easy to train with clicker and treats.
all of them were/are very barkie, or yippy I guess. seem to have a rpoblem with shivering when they get nervous. and they are very clingy to their family but take a while to warm up to strangers. she said males tend to warm up to strangers/new people faster than females though.
thats all I know about them besides they are cute (in their own way. sorry but I prefer big dogs) and small.

a friend of mine has the coolest little chi. she treats him like a normal dog, not like some miniature plaything, and he gets along with her other dogs (wolf hybrid, bull terrier and pointer mix) just fine. he even does obedience and agility.

They are awesome! I have one named Roxy Mae. She is a wonderful dog... spoiled yes, but not because she is little, but because I spoil all my animals. Her best friend is a Staffordhire Terrier and she loves people, especially children.
She was very difficult to potty train. We had to take her out ever 10 minutes for about a month. Training to sit, come, stay, lie down, bark, stop barking, etc. was extremely easy though. All Chis I have ever been around are big dogs in small bodies. They don't wanna be treated like "babies." They are lively and very fun.
But one very important thing to remember as with any other dog... SOCIALIZE! Yes, you should socialize every dog. But, with Chis, you have to think how strange and large everything is to them. Take them around cats, big and small dogs, young and old people, loud noises. Roxy is a barker though. Most Chis are. They love it. But, Roxy knows what Shhhh means.

Anyway, panzer gave you some good advice. Chis are great, loveable pups. But don't mistake them for little toys, because they won't appreciate it!

I agree with Ash, they don't like to be babied and they are most definately big dogs in small bodies. :D

I have a male long coat Chihuahua and he's not a barker at all. He'll make some noise if there is something strange going on (like someone in the yard, knocking on the door or actually in the house), but he settles down quickly.

Chi's need a lot of socialisation with people and animals. They also need obedience training. Sadly there are a lot of nasty Chihuahua's out there because they aren't given either of these. I suppose people look at them and think "Awww...he's so small, he couldn't do any damage or cause any trouble." and so they don't bother to train them like they would a larger dog. A lot of people also think that carrying your Chi around in a bag with you everywhere you go is good socialising. It's not, of course, because the dogs not actually being intoduced to new people, animals and situations...rather he's protected from it in his little bag.

Hmm...I seem to have gone off on a rant. Forgive me. :o

Anyhoo...Chihuahua's are wonderful dogs. If you're interested in them, do your research and visit some shows to see great examples of them. :) And don't be afraid of shelter Chi's. I adopted my little man from a shelter when he was 5yrs old and he's the sweetest, most gentle Chi I've ever met. :D

All I know is that I never want one again..lmao
My dog is mad to the bone...the meanest little sucker...he thinks he rules the world and I'm one of his personal slaves..lol

They're cute, but its true..they need TONS of socialization and more exercise than some people may imagine, or they tend to become aggressive..my chihuahua is aggressive

..they are very spunky little dogs, and can make great companions for the right owner...
