I thought that crate training taught dogs not to poo in thier cages where they sleep. Or I might be wrong but that was at least one of the main reasons, right? Well, Tidus can't seem to not poo in his crate, he doenst poop outside either, which is what I do before I leave for school. He only wants to poo inside on paper. Has anyone had the problem of thier pup pooping in the crate, Im getting tired of giving him like 10 baths a week:( .
I don't crate train but there are plenty of people here that do. Why don't you tell us a bit about him like where you got him from, how long you've had him, how you are crate training him and what your schedule is like (when he gets exercise, food, how often you play with him, how long his walks are...)

It could also be that the crate is too big.The pup should only have enough room to lie down.Turn around and stand up straight in.If it is too big the pup will use one end as a washroom. If it is too big they do sell partitions for seperating the crate until the pup grows.

he's 5 months old (I've had him for 2months) I walk him for about 15-20 min. (note: during this time he is too distracted to go). I have him run around my backyard tied to a pole, and given about a 24 ft radius to explore (note: he doesnt poo here either). I play with him usually all day since I have all afternoon off...its not constant but I play tug o-war with him.

Is he a petstore puppy? The reason I ask is because a good percentage of pet store puppies will poop and pee in their crates because that is what they did at the store. The idea of making it smaller so there is less room for him to go didn't work for mine, mine just pooped and laid in it. We eventually went to a puppy proof room and put a piddle pad down. He is now 6 1/2 months old and will potty outside every morning when he wakes up and he goes on the potty pad during the day but goes again outside in the evening after dinner.

When he poops on the paper, try taking it outside where he should be going. Maybe he will start to associate it that way. My dogs usually smell where they've pooped before and go in the same area.

This is an on going issue here.
Yukon grew up for the first 9 weeks of his life being a pig and it carried on after we brought him home. He is now house trained but still he was sick last night and rather than ask to go out, he crapped all over his crate and slept in it. I noticed when I got up in the morning and walked out of my bedroom, I could smell him.
Hope still pees in her crate if she hears any transport truck air brakes.
Flurry has a potty box of which she uses in the morning and sleeps in the after noon, and all night she messes everywhere in the crate. I tried a tiny crate to house train her and she just slept in her pee and poo. Night after night so I figure if I give her the bigger crate and she messes everywhere at the very least she will not be forced to sleep in it.
