its not as big as a great dane but very large 1 1\2

I know this is moved, but if you still read this. If you have a rambunctious dog, like my AmStaff, I would gently knee him everytime he'd come up to jump on me. Don't do it too hard to hurt him, but when he/she jumps, just put your knee up and say 'no'. My dog learned real quick that he didn't like hitting a bony knee when jumping up. Now I just have to say 'no' or tap his muzzle.

You are fortunate that method worked, especially with an Amstaf. It is really an outdated method and prone to making more problems than solving.
The newer method is to turn your back on the dog and ignore it whenever it jumps up. No eye contact or even saying a word to correct the behavior. The dog is doing it for attention so you remove the attention.
Saje's advice to do a search is the best answer but when I see the "knee in the chest" I think it's important to respond with an alternate method.
I agree with Richard.
And here's how I taught my hyper mutt Nanook to not jump (I have to be consistent or she will take advantage).
Make sure your dog knows 'sit' well. Start making her sit before she does anything else. Sit for food. Sit for attention. Sit to go outside. If she jumps on you turn and walk away. Ignore her. Come back after a few minutes and tell her to sit. If she sits fawn all over her. I mean go all out. It's best to get down to her level so she doesn't want to jump on you (she's trying to be close to your face). Pivot and walk away if she jumps on you. Ignore her for a few minutes. Walk back and ask her to sit. When she sits fawn all over her. don't let her jump up...
